"Hey, Hizashi?" I called out, the blonde hero looked at me curiously as he pulled his boots on, "what's this weird red thread stuck to my finger and why am I the only one who can see it?"
He smiled and patted the floor beside him. I let out a small hum and sat next to him.
"That thread is your string of fate," he told me, "it leads you to your soulmate. This thread isn't only on your finger, but it's also on your soulmate's finger as well."
"So, do you have one too?" I asked, curiosity bubbling inside my eight-year-old self as I watched him nod and look down at his own pinkie finger fondly.
"Yes," he told me, "and Shota is the one who is linked to me. We can both see the thread, that is why we both knew we were soulmates."
"That's kind of cheesy," I teased, he chuckled and nodded.
"I suppose it is, but if you think about it. A cheesy idea that links you to someone you'll be eternally bound to is kind of really romantic," he replied with a small wink.
"So how will I know my soulmate is near?" I asked him, I was more curious now that I knew that my parents were soulmates.
"Your thread will glow," he told me, "it will glow a bright red colour and no matter how tangled your thread is, you'll find your soulmate, who will most likely be looking for you too."
I smiled and laughed as he stood up and ruffled my hair.
"Anyway, I'm going out to work now, be good for Shota," he told me, I nodded.
"Stay safe," I told him.
Soulmates and all that weird sappy stuff has intrigued me from the point of view of someone watching the bond rather than experiencing it.
Like, you'd never expect Shota and Hizashi to be soulmates because they could not be any more opposite to each other than they already are but... because of that they're seemingly perfect matches for each other.
Shota isn't one to display his affection or love very much so you'd think that he doesn't actually like Hizashi but, if you look closely... you can see it. It's pretty sweet.
"What're you thinking about?" Hizashi asked, poking my cheek, "you've got a goofy look on your face."
"Goofy?" I snapped out of my thoughts and glared at him, "what goofy expression? My expression is totally normal."
"Right," Shota chimed in, though his tone didn't give me much room to believe he actually agreed.
Glancing up, I smiled at him as he slipped into the seat next to me.
I remember when we first met.
"Shota," Hizashi shouted, "if you didn't love me before, you're definitely going to love me now."
"What are you talking about?" an exhausted voice echoed from another room as footsteps shuffled out. Is there some kind of big bear in there?
"We have a daughter!" Hizashi announced as a man who looked like he'd just been dragged out of bed appeared in the hallway we were stood in.
"H-hello," I waved shyly and hid behind Hizashi, "I'm y/n, n-nice to meet you, sir."
"Hizashi..." Shota trailed off before sighing and walking over, he knelt down to my level, "I'm Shota Aizawa, you said you're y/n?"
I nodded slowly.
"Nice to meet you," he stretched his hand out to me, I eyed it carefully before taking it and shaking it.
"You're like a bear," I blurted out before I could stop myself. Hizashi, being Hizashi, burst out laughing while Shota looked at me confused.
"I-I'm sorry!" I quickly apologised, flustered. I heard a sigh and then felt him ruffle my hair.
"I was going to shout at Hizashi for just bringing a kid home, but I quite like you," Shota mumbled, "Welcome home, y/n."
I didn't know whether he was angry for being called a bear or not but he's my giant bear now and forever. I mean—Shota gives the best hugs ever. Hizashi does too, but Shota's are the best.
"We'll be going now then," Shota said as he looked at his phone, "it's getting late."
"But I don't wanna go yet," Hizashi pouted as I finished off my food and watched Shota stand again. I just leaned back in my seat.
"Stop complaining," Shota sighed, "we've got to work. We do have a child to support, you know?"
I smiled as Shota messed my hair up again and Hizashi gave me a quick peck on the forehead.
"Please think about joining UA, yeah?" he asked, "I think it will be good for you."
"Fine, but I'm only doing it because I know you'll bug me about it until my death," I nodded. He grinned before turning to Shota.
"Alright my wonderful husband, let's get to UA," he said loudly as he laced his fingers with Shota's as he just sighed.
My phone buzzed and I pulled it out to see amessage from my friend on the screen:
Meet me at our usual place at 12?
I just pocketed it for a moment again and watched my parents leave the flat, waving to them as they looked back to me.
"Have a good day at work," I smiled.
"And you. Be safe going to Mr Tech's," Shota returned before they both left the flat.
Leaning back and stretching, I let out a low sigh before shooting a quick 'I will be there' text back to my friend and stood up.
"I should probably start walking to Mr Tech's place now too," I muttered to myself as I started to collect my empty cereal bowl and spoon and head to the sink, "wouldn't want to lose valuable time in the workshop."
