"And you look fantastic doing it, zom-bae!" Addison chimed in, eliciting a laugh from both Y/N and Eliza. The tension eased, replaced by a renewed sense of purpose. The road ahead might be uncertain, but they would face it together, their friendship a beacon of light in the growing shadows.
Across the walkway, Bucky bellowed, "Addison, Y/N! Time to officially nominate me as president!" His voice dripped with an arrogance that made Y/N bristle. Losing the Cheer Camp Cup might have bruised his ego, but it hadn't dulled his sense of entitlement.
Eliza snorted, her dark humor a welcome counterpoint to the tension. "Lost the cup, not the audacity, huh?"
A sharp retort formed on Y/N's lips, but Addison beat her to it. "Cheer could be so much more than just pom-pom shaking for Bucky's glory," she declared, her voice ringing with passionate defiance.
Before she could elaborate, two of the Aceys, Lacey and Stacey, materialized beside them, Jacey absent as usual, probably fetching Bucky another metaphorical (or literal) pom-pom.
"Addison, Y/N! Once we're cheer captains, you're toast!" Lacey sneered, her voice laced with manufactured malice.
Y/N's competitive spirit flared. Cheer captain wasn't just about pep rallies and coordinated routines; it was about leadership, about creating a space of inclusivity and excitement for everyone. The Aceys' vision of cheer was as stale as last week's cafeteria pizza.
"And when I'm cheer captain," she countered, her voice firm and unwavering, "you'll be welcome to stay. Cheer, under my leadership, will be about bringing people together, not tearing them down."
Lacey and Stacey exchanged a look, their practiced sneers replaced by a surprised snort. "That was...awful trash talk!" Stacey spluttered, a hint of amusement in her voice.
"Right?" Lacey chimed in, her facade momentarily faltering. "You'll never be cheer captain, freak." She tugged Addison away, the three of them disappearing down the corridor with a dismissive wave.
Y/N gritted her teeth, channeling her anger into a steely resolve. Trash talk might not be her forte, but she had something far more potent – genuine passion and a clear vision for the future of cheer. A vision she wouldn't let the Aceys, or anyone else, undermine.
Suddenly, the clock on the wall chimed, jolting Y/N back to reality. Panic surged through her. "Oh no, my class! I completely forgot!"
Eliza had shot her a message, telling her that Zed had planned to run against Bucky for president. And she had to be there to support him. No offence to her "cousin" of course, she tolerated him with, but she had to look as if they were really cousins and personally, she thought that Zed would be a way better president.
The hallway echoed with the fading sound of chattering students rushing to the nomination assembly. Y/N, having meticulously locked the Home Economics classroom, strode purposefully down the corridor. A text from Eliza had informed her of Zed's presidential bid against Bucky, and Y/N wouldn't miss it for the world. Supporting Zed was a no-brainer, of course. Bucky's leadership style could be summed up in two words: self-serving pomp.
Rounding a corner, Y/N's sharp ears picked up a commotion – a mix of yelling and an unusual sizzling sound. Curiosity piqued, she quickened her pace.
The sight that greeted her wasn't what she expected. A group of teenagers, some vaguely familiar, huddled around a central figure tossing a silver trophy back and forth. Their panicked expressions and the faint wisps of smoke curling from the metal object were a dead giveaway – the trophy was scorching hot.
Fear wasn't Y/N's forte. Instead, a cool calculating assessment took over. These weren't students messing around; she recognized the telltale streaks of white hair from her encounter at cheer camp. Werewolves.
