⚠️The following chapter contains topics that may be upsetting to some readers

The evening had advanced to a relaxed atmosphere. People were standing in groups and talking, a few were already drunk and another few disappeared in the gardens to escape the suffocating air of the ball room.

I was supposed to have fun this evening but in reality I was always busy keeping Logan entertained and trying to hide his attention seeking behavior from the other guests as best as possible. We had gotten a bit to eat and drink but I refused to dance with him again since once had been enough.
A few ladies had asked for a dance but each time, Logan scared them off before I could even say anything. Even when they just looked at me, he'd act awkwardly close and put his arm around my shoulder or lean in closer.

I made sure to stand as far away as possible from Adelis and my father which proved to be fairly easy as they were occupied talking to important business partners that attended the ball.

"Do you remeber that I wanted to show you something?" Logan asked at some point after we had retreated near the entrance to the hall where it was easier to move around.
I turned around to him with a raised eyebrow. Honestly, this whole evening was just so exhausting and I wanted nothing more than to go but whatever Logan planned did still peek my interest even though I had ignored it before.

"So what is it?" I answered simply and crossed my arms. Instead of answering he signed me to come closer before proceeding to walk out of the ball room leisurely.

I followed behind him, thinking he wanted to have some fresh air but instead we proceeded deeper inside the manor. Less and less people came our way and I wondered if he even knew where he was going. At some point he stopped and waited for me to close up to him.

"What is the meaning of this?" I slowly asked and checked if the knife I had brought was still properly attached to the back of my belt.

"We should go to your room for that... but I don't know where it is" he simply stated and looked at me with a lost expression.
To my room... if he wanted to kill me today, would he choose the least obvious place by doing it in my room?

"You're not trying to pull anything weird, are you?" I commented, not hiding my suspicions but he seemed to misunderstand what I meant by saying that.

"If I wanted to do that kind of thing I could've just pulled you into any secluded hallway. I'd be more fun watching you trying to keep your voice down, while I-"

"Stop" I held up my hands and looked away for a moment to deep cleanse my thoughts.

"I wasn't talking about-... just forget about it." I sighed and noticed him snicker quietly. He was doing this on purpose, wasn't he? Was it a strategy to distract my suspicions? Should I pretend to be oblivious again?

"Fine" I stated in exhaustion and signed him to follow behind me without turning around another time.
I walked slowly when we went to my room and took more turns and rounds through the corridors than necessary so he'd have a hard time remembering the way. Yet, he followed obediently behind me like a dog.

When we stood in front of the door I took a breath. How would I handle this situation? I couldn't even guess what he wanted to achieve by doing this? Should I attack first or should I wait? It was too difficult.

"Please enter" I pushed down the door handle and let him in, following right behind him after taking off my mask to put it to the side.
He observed the room all around him curiously even though there was not much to see.
It was the only room that my father never really entered so I didn't feel like I had to hide any part of myself from him in here.
In the middle between two large windows was a large bed, some books laying around that I'd read if I ever had the time to... but I hadn't touched them for over a week. A few were about rare combat strategies from all over the world. One was about poisonous plants and another few about research on magic stones. More books were decorating the shelves on the walls.
Armory pieces and other equipment was stuffed into a large box, clothing was neatly placed in a large closet and paper was placed on the table to write letters.
