All you ~ benny rodriguez ~ the sandlot

it was a beautiful summer day at the sandlot. perfect temperature outside, but today benny was sick with a fever.
even though he still wanted play i insisted that he'd stay home which he listened to me.

I took place of benny and practice hitting to everyone
"tommy throw to second" i say as i throw the ball in the air and wack it with the bat.

after a few more minutes of practicing we decide to start the game.

"play ball!" ham says taking off his catchers face guard.
I roll my eyes and give him a quick laugh.

DeNunez pitches the ball and it smacks right off my bat causing it to soar over the fence.
everyone lets out a sigh and drops there glove.

"im sorry guys. i'm sure i have 99c in my room"

"well what are you waiting for! go get it" squints says in a snappy tone.

i run home and find some spare change in my purse then run back to the sandlot.

"alright" i say gasping for air "who's coming with me to the drug store"

"i'll go" yeah-yeah offers.

"alright let's go, we will be back soon guys!"

"tell me if you see wendy!" squints says

"yeah ok squints" i say rolling my eyes.

after a few minutes of walking in silence with yeah-yeah i decide to say something.

"so yeah-yeah, how school going? is there a special girl?" i say nudging his arm playfully.

"maybe" he says blushing.

"but she doesn't like me"

"how do you know? maybe she does" i say trying to cheer him up.

"tell me about her"

"well, she has blonde hair, blue eyes, she's older then me, and she is dating my friend, i've liked her forever now and i haven't got the chance to tell her"

i stop dead in my tracks. is he describing me?

"yeah yeah... what's her name"

"valerie..." he says looking down in embarrassment.

"aw yeah-yeah, that's sweet and all but your to young, your like another brother to me. and i really like benny.... im sure there are plenty of other girls who like you that are in your grade" i say as we continue walking

"no, none of the girls are like you"

"that's really sweet yeah-yeah, but what about.. hmm" i say trying to think of someone.

"Amanda! i know scotty likes her and your in his class!" i say laughing so he laughs to.

"yeah, yeah i guess she's cool"
we stop infront of vincent's drug store.

"listen, your a good kid yeah-yeah! in the future you will have a beautiful girlfriend or wife who your gonna have a bigger crush on then you do me!" i say giving him a smile so i don't break his heart.

"now let's just go get a ball and play another game, i have an extra dollar so we can get some pops to just don't tell the rest of the boys!" i say giving him a wink and smiling.

a few hours later it was starting to get dark out and mom was gonna call me and scotty home for dinner soon.

me and scotty walk home and before i make it to the driveway i stop

"tell mom i'll be there in a second scott"

"ok" he runs inside closes the door behind him.

i run to the other side of the street and go to bennys window. I knock on it a tiny bit then quickly open its bit just so he doesn't have to get up and open it for me.

"hey val what are you doing here?" he says laying in bed with a raspy voice and a thermometer hanging out of his mouth, and white tank top leaving me to look at his biceps.

"the craziest thing happened today" i say going to sit on his bed next time him
i then explain the yeah-yeah situation to him.

"actually? i knew he acted a little funny around you but i didn't know he had a crush on you. at-least he wasn't to heartbroken" he says in response with his raspy voice.

"yeah i just felt bad cause it's the worse having a crush on someone you cant date"

"yeah that was like me" he says

"what?! with who?"

"you?"

"me?! but we started dating like 3 weeks after we met"

"yeah that was the longest three weeks of my life. you acted like you hated me" he says laughing.

"ok maybe i did but that's because i liked you, and look! now im your girlfriend so there's a plus to that" i say getting up

"goodnight benny" i say getting up and kissing him on his forehead so i don't catch a cold from him and then reach my leg over the window

"goodnight beautiful" he says back. i look back and he had a smug look on his face i smile and blush then turn around and leave before he can see me smiling.
that was the first time he has ever called me something like that, i am completely head over heels for him.
