It's not who we are

Noah POV

There are days when I really wonder why I chose to be a lawyer. I sometimes feel really different from my colleagues. For example, they like suit jackets and ties from big brands while I wear one to work... because I have to wear one. If I could, I would come to work in jeans and a T-shirt. Yes, Flynn the Bad Boy is still alive in some way. Guys also like luxury cars. For my part, I still have my Jeep that I repaired when I was in high school and the same motorcycle. And ultimately, many colleagues like to have hot but often stupid girls hanging on their arm. For my part, I fell in love with my brother's best friend, the only girl who didn't fall at my feet. And that drove me and still drives me completely crazy!!!

So, for all these reasons, I often feel different from my colleagues. I had this feeling even more when one Friday afternoon at the end of a team meeting, the boss told us that he had reservation at a trendy restaurant in downtown LA to celebrate our victory on a large file. Our partner were also invited, fortunately. My colleagues were excited at the idea of this trendy evening with the flavor of Hollywood stars.
- So, who's going to get hit on by the boss's daughter this time!" Josh asked in the employee break room.
- I would bet for Flynn!" Richard said as he passed by me.
- No no! I'm engaged and getting married in a few weeks. I'm really not interested." I answered them while taking my cup of coffee.
- Do you really think this will stop Judy?" Josh replied. "Ben, married with his pregnant wife hasn't been able to keep her at arm's length. And it cost him a divorce.
- Your fiancée would have to be there and all there for Judy to leave you alone!" Richard clarified, bursting out laughing.

It was enough to make me panic and pick up my phone to call my fiancée as soon as I got to my office...

Elle POV

- So, what could you tell me about the fractured tibia and fibula?" I asked my group of UCLA medical students whom I have been tutoring since the beginning of the year.

Dr. Smith asked Dr. Michelle Taylor and I to tutor at the UCLA Medical School in an effort to prepare our trainees who are expected to arrive in September. I was blown away by the students' lack of resourcefulness. It seems like they were just apathetic, I could have asked them what color Napoleon's white horse was and I probably would have had the same reaction. I couldn't believe that these students were going to be interning in the emergency room in a few weeks where our speed of reaction can decide the life or death of a patient. This weeks are likely to be very busy to ensure that these students are ready for their internship.

At the end of the day, I was as tired as if I had spent the day in the emergency room. I was picking up my things after the students left when my phone started ringing and Noah's name came up :
- Hi Noah! I just finished my tutoring session. Are you joining me at home soon?
- I would rather ask you a favor, Shelly." he said to me with a weird voice.

I know my fiancé well enough to know that he's a little embarrassed to ask me to serve him...probably as a buffer.
- What's going on, Noah?
- The boss has scheduled a trendy party downtown and you know how I hate these formal and boring parties. I would need you !

I knew he probably wasn't telling me everything! I would have rather gone home to spend a quiet evening or eat at a restaurant alone with Noah rather than spending an evening with his work colleagues and their partner. But, Noah has already agreed to accompany me to the hospital charity gala in a few weeks. It's only a fitting turn of events that I'm joining him this evening.

I took the time to go take a shower and change at home. I stood amazed for a few minutes in front of my wardrobe. I'm still not a fashion icon, I told myself like when I was in high school. I've learned a few things about fashion since I've known Chloe, but fancy shoes and gauchi dresses are so not my department. I even took my phone to Facetime Chloe so she could tell me how to dress.
- Hey Darling! It's been a long time since we last spoke!" she replied, smiling.
- Hi Chloe, it's true that it's been a long time! But I'm not the only one to blame! Someone has been very busy with their new relationship." I said to her as Chloe started to blush.
