Sophie wrote the last sentence of her essay on the goblin-oger conflict. She was finally done. And as much as it pained her she wrote how the elves were the reason it was solved because they were made for the job. Ugh, she could still hear that stupid speech in her head. And while she disagreed with it, she knew that you just had to write what the teachers wanted to hear sometimes.
And now it was time to check the cave. They had started the fake messages about a week ago, and so far so good. She kept on having to remind herself to go early so she didn't deal with high tide, especially now that she didn't have Sandor to go in for her.
She wandered out to the pastures of Havenfeild. She didn't know why she didn't come out more often. She had been so focused on other things that she had never just taken a moment to come out here and breathe.
She could see Wynn and Luna playing in the distance. They had gotten much older this year, and they seemed to be growing up fast. To fast.
Maybe she should come out here for an Alicorn snuggle fest soon.Sophie got to the gate that had been added after she returned. She quickly unlocked it and started walking towards the cave. Well tried to at least. Sure she'd come back here lots of times since the kidnapping but....
Now she was trying to get people to kidnap her. But it would be worth it if she could save innocent people from being hurt.
At least that's what she told herself. What she told Forkle. But if she was being honest, she didn't want to be kidnapped or even have the possibility of it. She dreaded the day her fake kidnapping was to happen. She hated the idea of having to smell those chemicals again. And hated having to experience the tortious feeling of fatigue that dragged her to sleep. She hated it.
She could feel the goosebumps on her arms as she neared the entrance of the cave. She wished Sandor was here with her, now more than ever.
She laughed at the thought, who would've thought that one day she'd want Sandor to never leave her side?
She took a shaky breath and took a step. And then another. And another until she was just a foot from the entrance.
Another step and she'd be in. Another step closer to the horrible day to come. Did she really want to do this?
No
But she had to.
She walked into the cave, it wasn't that bad. Defined not worse than all the other times she'd come in here.
She quickly found where the dwarves had left the bottle, took the message from it, and stuffed it in her pocket.
She looked over her shoulder in case the rogue neverseen members were watching. She had to make it seem like this information was valuable. Valuable enough to kidnap for.
To kill for.Not that it would come to that. It wouldn't, Mr. Forkle had promised it wouldn't.
But he had promised a lot of things...No! She couldn't think like that. Sophie stood up and got out of that cave as fast as she could.
She hated that place. She walked fast, as the sun was already setting. It was really beautiful, the pink, orange, and yellow mixing together perfectly. And the sun let off this brilliant golden hue, transforming everything in its reach. She wished she could reach up and grab the sky and shove it into a picture frame.
She stood there for a while just basking in its glory. She wished sunsets were permanent. But sadly, like all good things, they all went away. As the sun made its way down she decided to go back to the house before Grady and Edaline flipped out.
She had told them that the Blackswan were planning something where they had to message each other through the cave but nothing else. Mr. Forkle had told her to be careful and frugal with her words when she told her parents. That way she could keep them out of trouble.
She knew they hated it when she didn't tell them what was going on, but they had gotten hurt too many times because of her. And she wanted to keep them safe this time.
That and Sophie had a feeling they wouldn't be too happy about her playing bait. She could see it now. Grady threatening to mesmer her to stay in her room. Edaline trying to calm him down, while simultaneously telling Sophie it was a horrible idea and there were too many risks.
She made her way through the pastures. She could see Wynn and Luna in the distance. They were just the cutest little things. And as she got closer they ran up to her, and who was she not to give them the attention they deserved? They had bigger, yes, but they were still adorable.
She rubbed Wynn between the ears, and pet Luna on her shimmering coat. She never wanted these two to get older. She just wanted to stay here and pet these two little rascals.
She was however interrupted by someone, most likely Grady, yelling her name.
"Sophie!" He yelled looking frantically, as Edaline ran up from behind. Sophie was wondering why they were acting so scared. Until she realized she forgot to tell them where she was going. They had told her to tell them before she went down to the caves so they knew how long she had been out there. They probably thought she was washed away by the tide, or worse, kidnapped.
" Mom! Dad! I'm over here!" Sophie yelled raising the arm ahead was using to pet Wynn. And let's just say he didn't appreciate it because he started head-butting her.
" Sophie! There you are," Grady said pulling her into a hug, " We were worried something had happened."
" I'm fine, I'm sorry I forgot to tell you where I was going. It just slipped my mind." She said as Edaline caught up to them.
" Oh Sophie," Edaline took Sophie's face in her hands and smiled at her. She could see the worry crease on Edalines forehead, she always hated it when she scared them.
" Hi Mom," Sophie said hugging Edaline. Edaline laughed slightly and hugged her back, squeezing her like there was no tomorrow. " I'm not in trouble am I," Sophie just had to know, the question had been gnawing at her tung until she asked it.
Grady and Edaline looked at each other. " I don't think so, but just try to remember to tell us where you're going," Grady answered looking at Edaline who nodded.
" I'm really sorry, and I love you guys a lot, you know that right." Sophie wanted to assure them that she didn't mean to do it. Plus she did feel bad about making them worry.
" We know Kiddo we know," Grady laughed and ruffled her hair.
She couldn't believe how lucky she was to get parents like these.
