Death Note: The Next Kira (Part One)

APRIL 13, 2006

TOKYO, JAPAN

AT 5:30 PM

I was sitting in a Wendy's with Near. "This is my fourth time ever going to a Wendy's," I said to Near. "And I'm not kidding." I sighed. "I hope I don't gain weight since we had dinner yesterday," I commented. Near chuckled. "It's okay," he assured me. "Even if you placed on a few pounds, I'll still think you're beautiful." I chuckled after Near said that. Suddenly, I heard the song, "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman come on.

 "Oh," I let out quietly. "I love this song." "What?" Near asked. "This song?" I nodded. "It's called "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman," I answered. "It came out in 1988. It was the year that I was born." "I know," Near said. "I'm sure you already know this, but I was born in 1987. I'm still trying to decide what song came out that year that I like." "There are a lot of good songs," I told Near. "I grew up listening to 80s music, but I also listened to stuff from the 90s too." I shrugged. "Basically because we were in the 90s," I continued. Near laughed after I said that. "Oh, Marie," Near said placing his hand into mine. "You are just as beautiful as the day that I first saw you." I nodded. "I know," I said to Near. "Thanks." The music started to play a little bit louder and the lyrics started to get to me.

"You got a fast car

and I got a plan to get us out of here"

I figured that the part of that song got to me because this was my plan to get us out of here. Even if I had to go along with the Boogeyman's plan, Near would live. Only one day and one early morning left. I had no idea what I was going to use as concrete evidence. Maybe I could take a picture of mine and Near's clothes together. Our shirts and our pants maybe. (Hopefully, I wouldn't have to take off my bra and underwear.) I didn't want Near to see me naked or have him see me naked.

Before I could think about something else, I heard:

"You got a fast car

Is it fast enough so we can fly away?

We gotta make a decision

Leave tonight or let me die this way"

I felt bad after I heard that part. I knew that I was doing something wrong, but this was the only way to save Near. There was no other option for me right now. I couldn't save Near without losing my virginity to him and taking his virginity away. I had to keep Near in love with me or else, we'll stop being friends. To be fair, Near thought that we weren't just friends since I put that spell on him. I didn't want things to be this way, but I cared about Near too much for a masked man to take him away from me.

"Okay, here are your French fries and chocolate frosties," I heard a waitress say. "I hope you two enjoy." "We will," Near told the waitress. We turned our attention back to each other. "Okay, I haven't had a frosty in a while," I said. "I haven't eaten them in a while." "Well, today is your lucky day, baby," I heard Near say. I couldn't believe that he called me, "Baby". The only person who ever called me that besides my parents was John. It felt weird having Near call me that, but since he was in danger, I had to go along with it and keep the spell on him. "Is something wrong?" Near asked. I looked at Near and shook my head. "No," I lied. "I guess everything is okay." "Okay. Now let's eat when the food is in front of us, my love," Near told me. I sat there as Near dipped his fries into his chocolate frosty.
