CHAPTER 43 - Arrival Of Guests

Start from the beginning

After some time, she spotted a familiar car in the distance and assumed it was her dad. As the car approached her, she stood up, only to realize it was Drake behind the wheel. He parked next to her and gestured for her to get in, but she felt annoyed by his presence.

"Dad..." Y/N muttered, squinting at him. Her frown was evident as she moved to the back seat of the car.

Suddenly, a clicking sound was heard from all sides as she tried to open the locked door. Y/N looked into his hazel eyes. It was clear he wanted her to sit in the front, for a reason she couldn't quite understand. Not wanting to argue after what happened at the arcade, she reluctantly got in the passenger seat and slammed the door as they drove home. Y/N turned her body towards the window, clearly not wanting to interact with him. Drake was driving slowly, too slow for her liking. If he wanted to talk, he could have pulled over, but he continued driving. The car was quiet, and so were the two individuals.

Honestly, this situation was making Y/N feel awkward as she shifted a bit. After what happened at the house, she couldn't help but feel anxious.

"I thought my dad was going to pick me up."

He chuckled softly at the girl's words before calming down his tone. "He said he told me to do it because he got busy with something."

"Something?" She asked, glancing her head to the side to see him driving, whose gaze was focused on the road.

"He didn't go into detail." He said while shrugging slightly.

Y/N sighed and turned her head back to the window. "What a lame excuse," she mumbled under her breath as she looked out with a bored expression. She didn't doubt D/N, but she couldn't shake the feeling that this was done intentionally.

"So… How was the arcade experience? Did you and your friends have fun?" Drake tried to start a simple and light-hearted conversation to lighten the mood in the car. It was clear that he was making an effort.

Y/N could see his effort, but she didn't feel like disclosing her experience to him. She knew he would probably freak out when she tells him what happened. She wasn't sure of the consequences of sharing that with him, as he might react negatively. It felt strange to her, even though he was her dad, she felt like she didn't really know the person sitting next to her. Her head was filled with thoughts and wonder, making the situation even more peculiar.

Regardless, she didn't feel like saying anything. All she wanted was peace and quiet after what happened because she already had a lot on her mind.

He sighed and tightened his grip on the wheel before releasing both his breath and his grip. "I knew you would do this," he said, glancing in her direction.

"Perhaps I wouldn't behave this way if you hadn't entered my life so unexpectedly, and at the worst possible time." She thought to herself, with a frown that went unnoticed by him as he was too focused on driving.

Y/N continued to look out the window, seeing her reflection in the corner of the mirror as he briefly looked at her. Drake leaned to the side, resting his elbow on the door while running his hand through his black hair. His hazel eyes softened with a touch of sadness.

He felt pain seeing how much the girl he knew when she was young had changed, partly because of his absence as a father. The look in her eyes was not one of recognition, but of a stranger. This situation made him feel guilty and he had hoped to reconnect with Y/N, but it seemed almost impossible. There were so many things Drake wanted to say, but he found himself at a loss for words. It wasn't that he lacked courage, he just couldn't express himself when his daughter wouldn't even look at him.
