The office seemed to buzz even more than usual the following day. Whispers of yesterday’s events had spread, and it felt like everyone was watching Amora, waiting for the next piece of the unfolding drama. But what she wasn’t prepared for was a confrontation with Victoria, Daniel’s fiancée.

It was mid-morning when Amora received a message from Daniel’s assistant, requesting her presence in one of the conference rooms. Her heart pounded as she made her way there, suspecting that this wouldn’t be a routine meeting. When she opened the door, she found not Daniel, but Victoria, sitting at the table with an icy expression.

“Please, sit,” Victoria said, her voice cold and authoritative.

Amora hesitated for a moment before closing the door behind her and taking a seat across from Victoria. The tension in the room was palpable, and Amora braced herself for whatever was about to come.

“I suppose you know who I am,” Victoria began, her eyes fixed on Amora.

“Yes, I do,” Amora replied, trying to keep her voice steady. “What can I do for you, Victoria?”

Victoria’s gaze hardened. “I want to make one thing very clear, Amora. Stay away from Daniel.”

Amora blinked, taken aback by the directness of Victoria’s demand. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” Victoria continued, her tone sharp. “I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but Daniel is mine. We’re getting married, and I won’t let you ruin that.”

Amora felt a surge of anger. “I’m not trying to ruin anything. I work here, and Daniel is my boss. Whatever happened between us was professional.”

Victoria let out a bitter laugh. “Professional? Is that what you call going to Italy together? I’ve heard the rumors, Amora. Everyone has. Do you enjoy being the center of office gossip?”

Amora’s fists clenched under the table. “You have no idea what it’s been like for me. I didn’t ask for any of this. Daniel and I went to Italy for business, nothing more.”

Victoria leaned forward, her eyes blazing. “You might fool others, but you don’t fool me. I can see the way he looks at you. He’s never looked at me like that.”

Amora’s heart ached at the realization. Despite everything, a part of her still cared for Daniel, and hearing Victoria’s words only made it more painful. But she couldn’t let Victoria see her weakness.

“Maybe you should be having this conversation with Daniel, not me,” Amora said, her voice firm. “If he’s not looking at you the way you want, that’s not my fault.”

Victoria’s face flushed with anger. “You think you’re so clever, don’t you? Playing the innocent victim. But I know better. Women like you always have an agenda.”

Amora stood up, her eyes flashing. “I don’t have to listen to this. If you have an issue with Daniel, take it up with him. I’m done being blamed for things I didn’t do.”

She turned to leave, but Victoria’s next words stopped her in her tracks.

“He’ll never choose you,” Victoria said, her voice dripping with venom. “You’re just a distraction, a passing fancy. In the end, he’ll always come back to me.”

Amora turned back to face Victoria, her heart pounding. “Maybe you’re right. But at least I can walk away from this with my dignity intact. Can you say the same?”

With that, Amora walked out of the conference room, her head held high despite the turmoil inside her. She didn’t look back, didn’t let Victoria’s words break her. She had to stay strong, for herself.

As she made her way back to her desk, she couldn’t shake the confrontation from her mind. Victoria’s words echoed in her ears, each one a dagger to her heart. She tried to focus on her work, but the pain and anger wouldn’t let her rest.

During lunch, she found herself sitting alone in the break room, pushing her food around her plate. She wasn’t hungry, but she needed a place to think, to process everything that had happened. Her phone buzzed with a text from Alex.

*Hey, how are you holding up?*

She sighed and typed back a quick reply. *It’s been a rough day. Can we talk later?*

*Of course. I’m here if you need me.*

She put her phone away, feeling a small measure of comfort knowing that Alex was there for her. But the confrontation with Victoria had left a deep wound, one that wouldn’t heal easily.

The rest of the day passed in a blur. She avoided Daniel’s office, not wanting to face him after everything that had happened. She needed space, time to figure out what to do next.

As she was packing up to leave for the day, she heard a familiar voice behind her.

“Amora.”

She turned to see Daniel standing there, his expression troubled. “Can we talk?”

She shook her head, feeling exhausted. “Not now, Daniel. I can’t deal with this right now.”

“Please,” he said, his voice pleading. “Just give me a few minutes.”

She sighed, her shoulders slumping. “Fine. What is it?”

He stepped closer, his eyes searching hers. “I heard about the confrontation with Victoria. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”

Amora crossed her arms, feeling a surge of frustration. “Why didn’t you tell me about her sooner, Daniel? Why did I have to find out like this?”

“I know I should have told you,” he admitted. “I was trying to protect you, but I ended up hurting you instead. I’m sorry.”

“Sorry isn’t enough,” she said, her voice cracking. “I’ve been through hell because of you. The rumors, the judgment… it’s too much.”

Daniel’s face fell, the weight of his guilt evident. “I never wanted this for you, Amora. I care about you more than you know.”

She shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. “If you cared, you would have been honest with me. You wouldn’t have put me in this position.”

“I know,” he said, his voice filled with regret. “I’ve made so many mistakes. But I want to make things right.”

She looked at him, the pain and anger warring with the feelings she still had for him. “I don’t know if that’s possible, Daniel. I need time to think, to figure out what I want.”

He nodded, his eyes filled with sorrow. “Take all the time you need. I’ll be here, waiting.”

As she walked out of the office, her heart heavy with emotions, she couldn’t help but wonder what the future held. The path ahead was uncertain, but she knew she had to stay true to herself, no matter what. And as she stepped into the cool evening air, she felt a glimmer of hope that someday, she would find the peace she so desperately sought.
