### Chapter 3: Teachers"Hanako-sensei! Here!" Balam-sensei waved enthusiastically as Hanako arrived at the school much earlier than yesterday to meet him.
"Good morning, Balam-sensei," Hanako greeted him with a warm smile.
"Good morning! Here, this will be your new desk," he said, pointing to an empty desk with a box beside it.
"What's this?" Hanako asked, curiously eyeing the box.
"I thought since you liked the books, I'd lend you some. There are also some books Principal Sullivan asked me to pass to you," Balam explained.
"Oh, thank you," Hanako said, touched by his thoughtfulness.
"Mhm, my desk is over there," he pointed to his desk a few rows in front. "I've got a familiar class later, so I'll need to get ready, okay? I'll be in my prep room if you need anything."
"Okay," she nodded. As Balam-sensei moved away, Hanako took in her surroundings. Her desk was on the right side of the staff room, closer to the door. The room was vast, accommodating at least forty desks arranged in pairs, and separated by a room divider. Near the door, there was a small lounge area, creating a cozy corner for teachers to relax.
"Good morning, Hanako-sensei," a familiar voice greeted her from behind.
"Ah, Dali-sensei," she responded, surprised but pleased to see him.
"I see you're sitting behind me," he remarked, pointing to the desk in front of hers.
"Yes, I am," Hanako smiled, appreciating his friendly demeanor.
"Well, good luck. The teacher next to you is..."
"Is...?" Hanako blinked, waiting for him to continue. Before Dali-sensei could say anything, the door of the staff room swung open, and the intimidating teacher from the stage during orientation walked in. He headed straight to the desk beside hers.
Oh no. Was she really that unlucky?
"You're the newbie?" the teacher asked, his gaze sharp.
"Yes, Suzuki Hanako," she replied, bowing slightly as a greeting.
"Naberius Kalego," he nodded curtly in acknowledgement.
"Yes, you were saying, Dali-sensei?" Hanako turned back to him, hoping for some reassurance.
"Ah, right! I wanted to ask you, are you related to the honor student and the Principal?" Dali-sensei inquired.
"Honor student? Ah, you mean Iruma?" Hanako asked, tilting her head slightly as she finally unpacked the last book Balam-sensei had given her.
"Yes, the one with blue hair," Dali-sensei described.
"Yes, he's my brother. Why?" she asked, curious.
"Well, he did cause a ruckus during the speech and the fight too," Dali-sensei said with a chuckle.
"Umm..." Hanako cringed at yesterday's orientation and gave an apologetic look, unsure of what to say.
"It was cool," Dali-sensei gave a thumbs-up. "Right, Kalego-sensei?"
Glancing back to Kalego-sensei, Hanako noticed he looked even angrier than usual.
"Tsk," he scoffed, clearly unimpressed.
"Heh," Hanako nervously chuckled and sweat-dropped. She awkwardly went back to organizing her desk, trying to shake off the tension.
The day went by quickly for Hanako. After organizing her desk, she helped Balam-sensei with paperwork. Throughout the day, she met more teachers, all of whom were friendly and welcoming. It was a relief, given how daunting her first day had seemed.
However, her brother's situation was another story.
"You summoned the teacher? As your familiar?" Hanako repeated, disbelief clear in her voice as Iruma recounted his day.
"Yes, he hates me already. I don't know if I want to go to school anymore," Iruma said, looking dejected. They were having dinner while Iruma shared his experiences.
"Who's the teacher?" Hanako asked, concerned.
"Kalego-sensei. And apparently the contract will last for a whole year," Iruma replied, his face falling further.
"Kalego-sensei..." Hanako echoed, realizing he was the scary teacher. "He's my table partner."
"Table partner?" Iruma said, confused.
"Yeah, my desk is right beside his in the staff room," Hanako explained. "He was... scary."
"I get it," Iruma nodded in agreement.
"Oh, tomorrow is my first lesson. I'll be mainly teaching the third years, so hopefully it will be fine," Hanako said, trying to shift the focus.
"Class started already? But I don't know my classroom yet," Iruma responded, puzzled.
"That's because first-years need to wait for their classroom list to come out. They won't start classes till Friday," Sullivan interrupted the conversation, appearing unexpectedly.
"Grandpa!" Iruma and Hanako exclaimed in unison, surprised by their grandfather's appearance.
"Hello~" Sullivan greeted with a cheerful wave.
"Oh, that's why..." Iruma said, understanding dawning on him.
"Hmm, don't worry much, I'm sure you'll do fine, Hana-chan," Sullivan said reassuringly.
"Well..." Hanako started, feeling a mix of anxiety and anticipation.
"You looked through the syllabus, right?" Sullivan prompted.
"Yes, and it's somehow very similar to high school mathematics," Hanako confirmed.
Hanako had spent most of the day preparing for tomorrows' lesson. Thankfully, it was similar and she didn't really need to plan from scratch. All she had to do was recall some of the lesson planning she did before.
"I'm sure you'll do great as a teacher," Sullivan stated with a confident smile.
Looking at Sullivan's encouraging smile, Hanako felt a surge of determination. She nodded, feeling a bit more confident.
"Alright, time for bed. You all have an early day tomorrow," Opera's voice interrupted them. Dinner concluded as Opera cleared up the table.
Hanako bid her grandfather, Opera and Iruma goodnight and went to her room. It has been a few days since she and Iruma was sold off, now in the netherworld of all places. She has been living a better life these few days than before. Hanako didn't think she would ever get use to this as she looked around to room while slowly drifting off to sleep.
