Chapter 10

Julian awakes to absolute chaos. Leaving his room, he is met with every position of worker rushing around the place and stumbling through the halls. He is barely able to flatten himself into the wall to miss getting clipped by a young maid frantically looking for a superior with a question.

No one gives him the time of day to figure out what all the commotion is about. So, he threads his way through all the hustle and bustle and into the kitchen to start his daily routine. To his surprise, the kitchen is already packed and everyone is in full swing preparing breakfast.

Julian finds himself seated at the main island in the kitchen. He takes up a knife and starts cutting some vegetables, waiting for any sight if Selene. He might as well put him self to use. It is several minutes before the head chefs herself bussels by yelling at people in the kitchen. He waits for her to settle at a pot on the stove in front of him.

"So," he begins as he dices some green onion. "What's the occasion? Why all the chaos this morning?"

Selene let out a cackle with a devilsh look as she glances at man across from her. "So no one told? The kings parents arrived early in the AM."

He can't help the groan that escapes him. Because one royal scrutinizing his every move wasn't enough. Let's throw more into the ring.

As he continues to help Selene in the kitchen, she gives him more information. Apparently, many pack members who live on the farther outskirts, as well some higher up packs, have made the journey with them. Selene says that they now are accomodating at least seventy-five new mouths to feed and bodies to care for. Which would be fine, if they didn't have such a short notice. Apparently Xavier's parents had planned a surprise dinner without him knowing. . . Or the staff, incase anyone told him.

"Why do you think they decided to come and surprise him all of a sudden?" Julian asks as he leans on the counter, now stiring butter around a pan next to Selene.

"Everyone thinks they came with his sister who was scheduled to come back to check on the king. Especially with everything that happened with the attack that brought you here," Selene whispers after glancing around her. "But I think, they may be coming to also scope you out. And that is also why so many people came with."

He scoffs at the older woman. "Please, they wouldn't even know I exist. I'm not that fascinating."

Selene raised a brow at him. "Except you are, sweetie."

When he gives her a questioning look, Selene elaborates. "For starters, all the close and important people know about Xavier's new found dislike of rogues. But he goes and has an omega rogue on probation in his pack? And Emery, very respected and sought after young man, mentors you? They want to scope out what's so special that you got this treatment compared to others."

"Well, when you put it like that," he stumbles out as he tries to find words to react to her.

But how can he? What do you do with that information besides gain paranoia that people are watch your every move, scrutinizing you. Which still seems untrue. There's no proof of anyone saying any of that or confirming it. If anything, it could be Selene testing his ego. Maybe they're trying to see how Julian reacts to being told he's the current talk of the town?

Selene hands Julian a bowl of eggs to start on as she works on some other food next to him.when she glances at Julian, she must have seen the unconvinced look as she adds, "I'm just saying what the maids and staff heard their bosses whispering about."
