Adam found himself settled comfortably in a cushioned booth at the corner of the charming, softly lit restaurant, a delectable meal laid out before him. Across from him, his friend Max sat, dramatically airing out his grievances about his ex-girlfriend. Scott, their mutual friend, appeared increasingly exasperated as he patiently endured Max's animated monologue. "And what'd she do after that?" He said.

With tear-streaked cheeks and a sniffling nose, Max woefully recounted, "And then she slapped me!" Adam couldn't help but feel a surge of discomfort. Adam quickly regretted his decision to eat at this restaurant. His hands jumped onto his face, He was embarrassed with all the eyes on them.  "god... stop shouting, Max" Adam mumbled.

"Then don't stare at other women while holding her hand, jackass," Scott comments. he had no idea why Max was crying when he was in the wrong.

"Has... you know what? I need a cigarette."
As Scott excused himself to step outside for a cigarette and a moment of respite, Adam found himself alone with the inconsolable Max. In the midst of emotional turmoil, Max proclaimed, "I'm going to create my own girlfriend," evoking a weary chuckle from Adam. "That's quite the lofty goal," Adam sighed, resignedly. Tolerating Max's ramblings, Adam discreetly stole a glance at his phone and swiftly rose from his seat. "Where are you—" Max began, but Adam interjected, "I'll tell Scott to take you home," deftly slipping into his jacket and signaling for the bill.

After settling the tab, he started looking for Scott outside. "Hey, something came up, can you take max home?" Scott nodded before putting out his lit cigarette. "I'll see you tomorrow then?" Scott asks as Adam took his phone back out. "Yeah, but not until 3rd period." Scott stared at Adam, who's eyes and fingers were inseparable from his phone. "Alright busy guy, we'll see you tomorrow then" Scott waves before entering the building. Finally, Adam got away from all of max's drama, yet something new seemed on his mind.

Adam made it to his car before taking his phone out and calling a number.  "Mom, you can't just show up while I'm not home" Adam said as he got in the car and started it. He looked quite annoyed by the fact that his mom was at his house. None the less, he went to go get her.

As he pulled into his driveway, there his mom sat, right infront of his door, with a bag in her hand. She jumped up the moment she saw his car and walked toward him. "Hey, Sandy" His mom said, weakly yet cheerfully. Adam groaned, "Don't call me that, it's embarrassing." He stepped out of the car and walked to the door, unlocking it and walking inside. "Next time, call me first, they only allow me to have one key" He sighed as she followed behind him, closing the door.

"Im sure you heard about your father? He got into a car crash and he's not waken up yet.." His mother mumbled. "Is that all you came here for? Money?" He reached into his pocket, pulling out his wallet before giving his mother cash. "That's 6k. It should last you a while.. Don't contact me just to talk about that man." He took his shoes off, placing them in the cubby in front of the entrance. "That's... I just needed a place to sleep for the night." Adam's eyes jerked back to his mom. "They kicked you out of the apartment?"

Her eyes weeped. "it wasn't about the money, they just held a grudge against your father so-" Adam scoffed, "Of course, it's dad's fault." He looked his mother up and down, the sight of her almost breaking into tears angered him. "You can sleep in the guest room." Her eyes lit up as he walked into the kitchen. "Thank you, son!" She shouted, taking her shoes off quickly, putting them in the cubby and then rushing into the kitchen. "Sure, whatever" He placed a bowl on the table. "Eat up, mom." She stared at the Soft tofu stew that he placed down. She placed the bag she had in her hand and sat down at the table. "Thank you for the food!"

Adam sat in the chair across her and watched her eat. He was glad that she was okay. His father had always been abusive towards her and yet she stayed with him. It angered him. Even though she wasn't his birth mom, she was there for him when his real mother died. He was seven at the time. The moment his mother died his father brought in another woman, he hated her at first, thinking that she had plans to steal his real mother's place. But in that time he got closer and closer to her, loving her more than he ever did his father.
