Nothing but your soft footsteps sounded down the long hallway. Through the open springline windows on either side of you floated the wondrous realm that was Camelot. Muted pinks and purples cast along the horizon in dusty gray clouds. You were floors above any tangible ground and that presence was made more emphasized due to the hovering creations and the stagnant breeze wafting through. The shadowed light from outside cast the long hallway in shifting light that seemed to morph into creations of chaos. Yet, you traversed forward, especially due to the request for your presence by him.

It was quiet, eerily quiet. The air seemed calm but filled with something on the brink of a sound. Nothing could be heard from this high up but you felt like something was going to ring in the air. You were on edge yet you tried to keep calm. If anything, the jitters crawling across your skin were chills of excitement; just what could he be wanting from you at such an hour? Sure, it wasn't late— around dusk— but usually the realm was quiet and devoid of any activities at this time. So what did he want with you? That answer was present in your mind even when you reached the oval opening of the throne room.

From the position of the hallway down below, you weren't able to see any sign of him. Your heart seemed to race from your chest. Keeping your head down, you paused for a second to be judged by the guards before passing the threshold and onto a plush red runway. Instantly, a set of eyes burned into your skin. His presence was heavy and settled on your skin in a weirdly comforting way. Just the sheer power of him pressed your body with a notion of fear. Yet... he didn't scare you. Any normal human would have cowered on the floor by now, unable to move due to his aura. But you... no, you were special, certainly special to him. This presence left you with a sick delight in knowing he would never be frightening to you. There was no malice behind his gaze that followed you down the room; rather, amusement. Because he knew how excited you were, it was evident in the small smile that graced your lips. You found delight in this: the fact that only someone like you would be excited to be here. He would never hurt you; no, he cherished you in a way that was uncharacteristic. You caught his eye; you piqued his interest for these past years. He took a liking to you and kept you around. Because no one made him feel as bubbly and unguarded as you did. He could laugh freely and feel no need to keep up an intimidating demeanor when he was around you.

So that was why you were excited by him. It was exactly the cause of this growing feeling bubbling in your chest. You were his, and he knew it. It left you brimming with anticipation for any action: any sound in that low register of his, or any shifting movement that would swoosh his indigo cape and careen his pearly attire. But instead, silence met you; it excited you until your knees became weak. Maybe he did have an effect on you. But it was an influence of great elation that left your smile growing. In a display of humor you knew he'd enjoy, you stopped at the bottom of the steps and slowly lowered onto one knee. You remained calm while dipping your head, finding intense interest in the ground in order to keep your body from slightly shaking. You rested your forearm on your upright leg and kept the other by your side with the pads of your fingers lightly brushing the carpeted runway. You couldn't hide your smile.

"You called for me, your majesty?" You kept your voice balanced even if a small laugh almost escaped. He'd certainly find delight in that name. But, you were dubiously surprised when no answer came. You waited patiently for a response, even lowering your head further. The only sound present was your palpitating heart and his steady breathing. Moments passed.

"Down. All the way."

You wanted to answer with some sarcastic remark. But no words came. So he was enjoying this? You quickly did as you were told. You folded your knee until it sunk into the carpet before lowering all the way down onto the floor. Now darkness hid your surroundings; it was just you and the red runway. You couldn't quite discern what was going on around you until the shifting of fabric swooshed in the air. You almost lifted your head but refrained. But not when oxford-clad footsteps tapped down the steps and stopped in front of you. You waited with baited breath.
