I was sitting at my desk and attempting to draw the moment in the blue room when I got my pens when Marcus got home. He came and knocked on the door.

"Come in," I said.

"How'd it go today?" he asked as he went to sit on the other chair.

"Councillor Lyra said that she'd find a scribe to train me to write better. I don't really think she knew what to do." I set my pencil down and turned to look at Marcus. "Nothing I didn't expect."

"Well at least you have something to look forward to," he said.

I nodded in agreement. "Oh by the way, I ran into Julianna today. She wished me a happy birthday and all the things."

"What else did she say?"

"She said thatIcouldusethepenstohelppeoplelikepeopleatthehospitalorsomething," I said in one breath.

"Say that again, slower please," he said.

"She said that I could use the pens to help people like people at the hospital or something. I wonder if it would work and which one I would use. Not the Red one for sure. Maybe Blue or Purple," I rambled, thinking out loud.

"That sounds awesome. We still have some time before Mom gets home, so we could go test that theory," he said.

"Wait, Now?"

"Yes, now. What better time than now?"

"I guess that makes sense. I still don't think we should go without Mom knowing where we are. We are supposed to be home right now." I reminded him.

"So we leave a note in case she comes back before we do," he said, throwing his hands up.

"I don't think that-"

"Come on. We have to figure this out. What if you could help the army during a time of war by healing the soldiers? What if you could help the parents of a little kid by healing them?" he asked, clearly excited.

"First of all, it's not me healing people. It would be El Roi. Other than that I guess you made good points." I conceded.

"All right let's go," Marcus said.

The trip to the hospital was a quiet one. Neither of us knew what to say, both lost in our thoughts. I was mainly wondering which pen to use and how to word my entries. I had my pens and a blue notebook I decided would be the special journal.

The council chambers were in the middle of Main Street; the hospital was on the end farthest from our house. It took about about a seven minute walk to get there. We entered the waiting room and were assaulted by the hospital smell. I looked around the waiting room and saw a man who was cradling his arm. I pointed him out to Marcus, who nodded and walked over to him.

"Excuse me sir," Marcus got his attention. "May I ask what happened?"

The man scowled at Marcus. "No you may not," he said.

"Sir, I believe I may be able to help you," Marcus tried again.

"Do you understand the meaning of the word no?" the man asked.

Marcus looked at his feet. "Yes sir. I apologize."

The man noticed me and scowled. "What do you want kid?"

"I am here with my brother, sir," I said.

The man huffed and turned away. A kid slightly older that me was watching us from across the room. At first glance, nothing appeared to be wrong with him, but then I noticed a pair of crutches against the wall. I walked over to him.

"Your brother said you could help that old man," he said.

"He did," I replied cautiously.

"Could you help me?" he asked, his expression hopeful.

"What do you need?" I aksed.

"I had an accident that broke my leg a few years ago. It never healed properly and I have had to use crutches ever since. I came here today because the pain was worse than normal." he explained.

"I think I can help," I said. "What is your name?"

"Evander. You can call me Evan though," he said.

"Well Evander, my name is Mallory, but you can call me Mal," I said. I took my pens and the notebook out of my satchel. Evan watched me curiously. The Blue one or the Purple one? Blue seemed right. I grabbed the Blue one and wrote Evander's leg is completely healed and stronger than it was before.

Evan looked at me with a look that said that's it? I didn't know what to say. Oh, I have these new maybe magic pens that can heal you but that sounds crazy so you won't believe me. Then his expression changed. His face flooded with relief and a smile broke through.

"I don't know how you did that, but I have been in pain for years, and now my leg feels brand new!" he exclaimed.

"Why don't you try to walk on it," I suggested. His excitement was contagious. I reached a hand out to help him up, but he swatted it away. He stood up and walked a lap around the waiting room. When he got back to me, he started jumping.

"I never thought I'd be able to walk without pain again, much less jump," he said. "I want to run!"

I followed Evan outside and he took off down the street. I stood outside the hospital door, unable to wipe the grin off my face. Marcus joined me outside.

"It worked Marcus! It worked!" I told him.

"I knew it would, Mal," he said. "I knew it would."

**here comes the plot, maybe. Anyway, this one was fun to write.**
