"I beg to differ."
"What makes you say that?"
I chuckle silently to myself, looking down at the phone in my hand. "Because he's sitting right next to you." I hang up the call, snapping the phone in half along its hinges, making sure it can't be tracked or recalled.
Through the scope, Natasha panics, looking at the man beside her, then looking out the window, scanning the horizon. Yet from where I am, I'm invisible to the naked eye. Too far away to be seen let alone noticed.
Within mere seconds, I pull the trigger, firing the gun and hitting the HYDRA official in the back of the skull, just barely missing Natasha's shoulder, but killing him instantly as he falls to the floor in a pool of his own blood, surrounded by the shattered glass of the now broken window.
The three Avengers in the room jump back both due to the sound of the shot, and a few more Avengers rushing into the room after Clint kicked down the door, bow string drawn taut.
He looks down at the dead official and kicks his foot, then looks out the window, scanning the buildings, locking eyes with me.
My eyes widen to saucers and he fires his bow. I move just in time as it goes right through my scope. Two questions ran through my head on loop.
One: How did he even see me.
Two: If I had stayed still, would I no longer have my eye?
I stare at the arrow as it starts beeping. I get up and run, quickly doing the unthinkable and jumping off the roof of the building right as the arrow explodes, the impact of the explosion is harsh, but I still stick the ten story drop perfectly.
Only in situations like these am I grateful for what HYDRA equipped me with. Most days I sit in my apartment day dreaming of the organization's demise. Planning each agents murder and how I could get away with it.
Knowing it would take the Avengers a while to catch up to me, I walk the streets as locals run from the sound of the explosion and bricks that fall from the building as it shakes.
A grunt as a pain shoots down my spine in waves.
I mutter profanities and quickly slip into an alleyway as my shirt begins to rip from the back.
I hiss as the familiar black spikes exit each vertebrae in my spine, tearing through the scratchy fabric of my shirt. Despite the shirt being old and kind of gross, it was the best one I had.
I fall to my hands and knees as two more poke through the skin between my shoulder blades. The other spikes bending and stretching to meet the two major ones. They wrap around each other and grow, inky black spikes becoming midnight black feathers.
The formations grow and keep growing until they reach their full size. Staying folded behind me as the feathers dragged along the harsh dusted ground.
I look up at the closet building as voices and fast running steps approach the alleyway.
Recognizing the patriotic voice of Captain America, I bend my knees and spread the wings behind my back, flicking them and launching myself into the air just high enough so I can glide and land on the roof of the building.
I look down in the alley as the Avengers rush into it, only to be met with a few dumpsters and a dead end brick wall.
"This is where she was. Jarvis isn't wrong," Tony explained, sounding almost cocky while holding out his armored hand and scanning the area before the team.
"Ya sure?" Clint asked, also looking around but the attempts to see anything important reigning futile.
"Can it, Legolas. She's here."
Clint huffed and looked around some more.
Both he and Natasha look up at the same time, both spotting me simultaneously and freezing.
The feathers on my wings ruffle and stand on end as me and the two Avengers get locked into some sort of staring contest that lasts for a solid ten seconds.
"I've got eyes," Natasha says, drawing everyone's attention to her, letting them follow her gaze to see me.
I stare down at all of them, my wings stretching out to their full span of almost twenty five feet. Each feather rustling in the breeze from above.
I launched into the air again, but Natasha was quicker, grabbing her gun and firing it right at me, the bullet going through my wing and splashing my body with blood.
Panic floods through me as I begin to fall into the alleyway at an alarming speed. My wings retract and turn back into the small spikes, going back into my spine. I crashed onto the concrete of the alley floor with a sickening crack and a thud. My vision blacking out as I fall into unconsciousness.

A/N - Yeah, so I like this version far better. And now you can kinda see why she was a part of the project Angel. It makes more sense both literally and metaphorically.
Anyways. I don't think I'm gonna have a crazy writing schedule as I just started an original novel that I hope to finish by this December. Maybe. Fingers crossed.
But yeah. See you next time Darlings <3
