Today's Wednesday, you'll be outside, in the direct sunlight, which you're already are, nearly suffering from heat stroke. You don't know how these people can do this! Dressed to the nines and outside working.
At least the brothers took up most of the hard work, the nuns had it a little more easier, like removing weeds, removing dead plants to replacing them with healthy ones.
You've never done any of this before. Even at the orphanage, they always had friendly neighbors do the yard work.
"And what's this?" You asked, holding up a tool for the nun to see.
"They're loppers, they're used for cutting the thicker branches like this one." She pointed to a few semi big ones, they were the side of two fingers thick and were drooping downwards. "You want to try to get as close to the base as possible; Like this." You let her use the weird giant shears first, her rake tucked under arm as she demastrated how to use. She clipped a branch and it fell, clearing up some space.
"Ohh, okay! I think I get it."
"Do you know anything about yard work?" Asked, all your questions just baffles the woman, you shook your head.
"Nope." You purposely made the 'P' pop, "I just know what a rake and a shovel is- That's all I know." You chuckled to yourself "anyway, do you know where Sister Imperator is, I have a few questions for her." Anna raised a dark brow,
"Oh? Did you not hear?" The head of the clippers faced the ground, touching grass and dirt as you cooked your head in question.
"Uh, no?"
"She and Papa are out. They were summoned to do a tour, they left a few days ago."
Huhhh? Okay, you may have forgotten about the whole Ghost Band thing, you also had no idea the old woman was a part of it. You kinda wonder what she does? Does she play an instrument? Or does she handle the merch?
"Okay, I'll wait, it's no problem." You sent Anna a smile, your questions can wait for the time being, you're in no rush at the moment.
---
Inside the Abbey, a man stood near the window, watching faithful followers work with diligence. Something felt off within the beautiful land, something that doesn't belong, it's a feeling he had since the day it arrived.
Something he could not describe tainted the scenic garden, no matter where his gaze traveled it could not locate.
---
"Don't you guys have Ground Keepers?" You finally asked, snipping the last of the unwanted branches from your third tree, the second one only needed a few clips here and there.
"Mmm? No." Anna continued raking leaves into a nest pile, making it easier to contain the browning foliage to properly be gathered for the nearby trash can, the one strictly used for collecting leaves. "I asked the same thing when I was younger, mother always tells me it's to help build character and to learn responsibility."
"Okay, then." You said as you nodded, of course she couldn't have seen you doing such a thing. "What do we do with these then?" You looked around, seeing nothing you could possibly dump your organic trash at.
"Don't worry, I'll show you. We have a compost pile for such an occasion." You wobbiled a little in the grass, the dirt eating up your heels and causing you to become unbalanced. Luckily you were able to keep yourself standing straight when Anna turned around, it would've been embarrassing if she saw you take a sudden tumble. "We'll get your branches chopped up and finally we'll add my leaves." You stood there nodding, acting casually like you weren't about to fall over.
You followed the woman all over the place outside, she explained more about this yard work stuff and as she promised, she shown you were to find this compost thing. Turns out it's not really that far and it smelled like wet earth, apparently if it has any other smell that means it's rotted in the not good way.
Wow, you're learning so much about, uh, nature's trash can. Will you be quizzed on this? You hope not.
You definitely know you're not going to be some kind of farmer or somebody who sells plants.
If you were to sell flowers, they'll be the darkest and most brutal kinds. The kind to make your fathers proud, they like shit like that!
And maybe some sweet and cute tulips and sunflowers if you chose to, under the brutalness of the Dethklok brand, you were secretly a girly-girl. Only Toki knows and you made him do the pinky promise not to tell the others, you don't want to bring shame to the family.
Lunchtime rolled around, you had to look at your little slip to confirm but your guide eased you from your confusion and slowly growing anxiety.
You've never experienced lunch time with a crowd of people and being new, you wouldn't know where to sit and whom would allow you to eat next to them.
Good thing Anna has your back, she's basically your only anchor while here and the only person you "know".
Maybe Charles was right, you should've attended a proper school, maybe school could've helped you with whatever is going on... Or not.
You ended up sitting with Anna's friends, you could not understand them, they only speaking Italian and your partner had to translate for you. One brother and two sisters, the siblings seemed curious minus the third member. They mostly asked questions except one of the nuns, she was more on the dirtier side. Both the nun and brother basically laughed at whatever she said,
"Bella, don't you'll scare her off." Anna tried to shush her said friend, "[NAME], don't listen!" Your new friend had to cover your ears like you were some kind of child, Bella suggestively licked her fork caressing the metal with tongue as she batted her long lashes your way.
Oh? Oh.
You now were kinda horrified, was she referring to what you might be thinking she's doing?
