034- Together forever

Start from the beginning

Nicklaus was not just the love of my life anymore, he was everything to me. Nobody had done what he did for me, Nicklaus risked his life for me and in all that, he didn’t even want me to blame myself.

The amount of time I thought about him while locked up by Tim is a story for another day. All I wanted was for him to wake from this coma, and spend the rest of his life with me.

The hospital room door opened and I glanced in its direction. “Good morning, Muna,” Julia walked in and behind her was Nicklaus’s father and his stepmom, Reese.

Charles Gray was dabbed in a black suit and as usual, his face was etched with no expression. Taking my gaze away from Reese, who was setting the flower she brought with her on a table, I glanced up at Julia, who was now standing beside me.

“How are you?” Julia asked, placing her hand on my shoulder.

I shrugged, “I’m okay.”

She glanced at the others in the room and said, “I met Mr and Mrs Gray on my way in here and we were thinking—”

I shook my head, “No.”

I already knew what she wanted to say and I wasn’t going to leave Nicklaus’s side. This wasn’t the first time Julia tried convincing me to go home, and failed, so I wondered why she was still trying to get me to do it.

“Muna,” she said, crouching to my level like I was a child she was about to gently coo into doing something. “I could go with you and wait until you shower and get some rest. Nicklaus will be here when you’re back.”

“No, I want to be here when he wakes up,” I said in a shaky voice, glancing at Nicklaus. I couldn’t remember the last time my voice remained stable while talking about Nicklaus or talking to him.

“I think you should listen to Julia,” Mr Gray’s voice filled the air and we glanced at him.

When I met Mr Gray at the fundraising event, this wasn’t how I pictured for us to get to know more about each other. I wasn’t supposed to put his son’s life in danger and have him look at his son who was lying in a coma, every day with guilt in his eyes.

I knew that their relationship wasn’t the best but he had always been here. He cared so much for his son and even though he never showed much emotion whenever he was here, there was that look in his eyes that seemed like he partly blamed himself or realized how he would have died without them having a great relationship.

Julia and Andrew said it was because of what happened between Nicklaus and Ms Allison, which his father might be thinking was partly his fault. They didn’t tell me what happened between them in detail, they said it wasn’t in their place to tell. But whatever happened wasn’t bothering me, it was all before I met Nicklaus.

When I apologized to Mr Gray for what happened, he said it wasn’t my fault. He made me promise him I would never break his son’s heart. I did. I promised him.

“Muna, we hope for Nicklaus to wake up sooner, but we also want you to take care of yourself, dear,” Reese said, walking towards me. “You haven’t even left the hospital, why don’t you go home and take a nice bath, eat something nice and return.” If only she knew that nothing was nice without Nicklaus. When I said nothing, she continued talking, “I’m sure Nicklaus knows how much you love him and would want you to take care of yourself too.”

“We will spend some time with him, go on with Julia and come back later,” Mr Gray sealed the decision.

I sighed heavily, letting my gaze go from one person to another before it finally landed on Julia. Without arguing anymore, I rose to my feet and gathered some of my stuff.
