Lucius could barely sleep that night.

Something felt extremely off.

He wasn't sure what got into his head, but purposely squeezed around Jake's waist, planting his forehead into the crook on the back of Jake's neck to nudge him awake. "Babe," he whispered, planting a kiss against him before he breathed, "I can't sleep."

"Hmmm...?" Jake muffled, his eyes still closed.

"I said I can't sleep."

After a short pause, he loosened his hold as Jake twisted around to face Lucius, squeezing himself against his chest. "Maybe we can tire ourselves out and that'll make you sleepy," he moaned tiredly.

Usually, Lucius have accepted or laughed, but the anxiousness from earlier had left him with an odd presentment. "Do you think Nat would try to sneak out today?"

Another pause and Lucius wondered if Jake's pauses had always been so long. "She would be stupid if she did."

It would be, but he wouldn't put it past Natalia to do it. That was why he soon separated himself from Jake and pushed himself onto his feet. "I'm going to check." He heard a quiet moan from Jake who returned to sleep soon enough, and rubbing his eyes, he left the bedroom and dragged his feet towards her bedroom. He was desperately hoping that she was going to be there, because he didn't want to rage all over again after such a horrendous day.

But as expected, the moment he opened the door, the empty messy bed gave him the answer he needed; she was gone. The worst from all of this was that he had started tracking her phone to know her location, hence she left her phone visibly on her bed, as though to mock him for being unable to find her this time.

It took everything in him not to break everything in this room; he wanted to light the whole damn thing on fire.

The prior Lucius would have, but the older and wiser Lucius was a father now and had found ways to cope with the raging thoughts from anger management classes. Instead, as he had been instructed, he decided to sprint a couple times down the hall to release his rage elsewhere, letting his body start sweating before finally trying to use reason to decide what to do next.

Should he wake up Sarah? No, that would only make her panic. Should he wake up Jake? That would make him panic which he didn't mind, but what if it wasn't something serious? What if she had landed at Dante's place and merely needed someone to pick her up?

The reasonable option that he decided was to call Nate and see if they knew anything. It was quite late and there was a chance they wouldn't pick up, but he still tried anyway.

Luckily, on the second ring, Nate answered the call. The first thing he said was, "I haven't been able to sleep, and neither has Dante."

"Me neither. Is Natalia at your place?"

There was a pause. "No? Is she supposed to be?"

Lucius closed his eyes; relax, he told himself, take a breath, don't get mad just yet. "Can you check Charles room?"

"Of course," Nate replied, pushing himself off the bed and starting his way towards Charles' bedroom. "Charles would be sleeping right now though."

"I know. If he's sleeping, tell him it's my fault that you had to wake him up."

"Don't worry Lucy," Nate chuckled, climbing the staircase. "If she's not there, you can come over and we can help you look for her."

He sighed, "I feel like that's all I've been doing these days, looking for her all over the city."

Nate chuckled again, shrugging his shoulders. "Maybe this is just a phase and they'll both gr..." The line went quiet, and Nate didn't finish his sentence. Then, through a shaky breath, Lucius heard, "He's not here."

"What?"

Instantly, the panic on the phone could be heard, the pounding footsteps of Nate as he stormed through the room, raising the entire bed frame to look for him underneath, shoving all the clothes aside in his closet, looking behind his desk even though there wouldn't even be enough space for him there. "Charles isn't here either! Fuck!" Nate slammed his fist against the desk, accidentally causing a hole in it. "I told him not to fucking go if Nat came over!"

"Are you kidding me?" Lucius felt his blood pressure start to rise.

"No, I'm not!"

Before Nate even knew what was going on, Dante stormed inside the room and saw the colossal mess Nate had caused while searching for his son. "What's going on?"

"Charles is gone!" Nate sent his metallic fingers through his hair as he frantically waved his hand. "And Lucius just called me and said Nat isn't there either!"

If Dante was alone, he would have gone mental.

However, he didn't want Nate to stress too much and started by taking deep breaths, stepping closer to Nate. "Alright, they've sneaked out before, they'll be back."

"Look at the window," Nate hissed, finally realizing that the window was left wide open with a rope at its frame. "That's how they got out."

"That's fine," Dante tried to calm him down, shaking his head and pressing his palms on Nate's shoulders. "They always come back, they'll be back this time, trust me."

"That's not the fucking point Dante!" Lucius screamed through the phone, storming through his bedroom and rushing in his closet to grab a hoodie. "They were both grounded today! She was not supposed to leave the house and she knew that; she's out of control and I'm done."

"And I told Charles not to leave with her if she asked because I had a bad feeling," Nate murmured under his breath. He began to pace, and Dante noticed his eye fill with tears as he mumbled, "Where could they have gone?"

"Lu, what's going on?" Jake turned on his nightstand lamp as he watched Lucius rushing through their bedroom in a panic. Without even knowing anything, he stood to his feet and started putting his own clothes on.

"Follow me," Lucius ordered. "I'll fill you in on the way."

"Listen," Dante grabbed the phone from Nate; they were all getting even more worked up and it wasn't helping the situation. "Come over, and let's wait here all together for them to come back."

"I'm not waiting for shit, I'm going to fucking find them, that's what I'm doing," Lucius refused, looking all over the place as he hissed, "Where the fuck are my car keys?"

"She probably took them," Jake sighed, reaching for his own keys on the kitchen table. "Let's take my car."

She didn't even have her license.

Lucius was trying his hardest not to punch or break anything, but his grip around the phone was starting to tighten. "I might just kill her when I see her," he roared as he followed Jake out of the home.

"Let's all take a deep breath to relax, alright? I'm sure that it's nothing that serious," Dante said, although he didn't even sound convinced himself. "I'm going to stay here in case they show up, and then we can—"

Both Nate and Dante froze when they heard knocks on their front doors.

It was four in the morning, there was no one in the neighbourhood that would knock at this time; that was definitely them. Both of them raced down the staircase, and the moment they opened the door, part of them wished they could go back in time the couple seconds that they didn't know what was going on.

"I'm so sorry..." Charles cried. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I should have told you guys, I'm so sorry, it's all my fault, I'm sorry..."

His chest was covered in blood, with flickers across his face.

In his trembling arms, Natalia laid unconscious, her face filled with blood that leaked profusely all the way to her shirt, leaking onto the ground.
