Special containment procedures: Currently the darkness is being held within dark neon as its current host, thanks to a special red and black amulet that was recovered during the raid on a facility run by a group known as "the brotherhood", neon has reported while wearing it, it keeps the darkness in check, allows him to use its powers, but without it affecting his mind.

The darkness does have one weakness and its name hints to it, light, it has trouble forming in places with too bright lights and neon has even described to others that he feels a burning sensation and his vision gets blurry when light is shown on the darkness when it's not safely hiding in his body.
As for how it gains nutrients and strength......well it's not clear if it does this for food, strength, fun or all 3, but it's a normal thing for it to consume human "redacted".
