Students were filtering back into the castle, and the atmosphere was charged with anticipation for the new term. I had just finished reviewing a stack of essays when a commotion in the corridor caught my attention.
I stepped out of my office and made my way down the grand hallway, the sound of raised voices growing louder with each step. The hallways were adorned with festive decorations, a stark contrast to the tension I was about to encounter.
As I approached the source of the disturbance, I saw Draco Malfoy standing over Hermione Granger, his expression a mix of anger and disdain. Hermione was visibly upset, her face flushed with both embarrassment and anger. Draco's wand was drawn, and he was advancing on her menacingly.
"Why don't you just admit it?" Draco sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "You're nothing more than a Mudblood. You don't belong here."
Hermione stood her ground, though her hands trembled slightly. "Draco, I've had enough of your insults. Leave me alone."
"Oh, really?" Draco's voice was sharp and threatening. "Maybe I need to teach you a lesson about your place."
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my composure. "Draco, that's enough! You have no right to speak to anyone like that."
Draco turned his fiery gaze towards me. "Oh, look who's here. The great Professor (Y/L) coming to the rescue."
"Yes," I said firmly. "For your blatant disregard of the rules and your disrespect towards Hermione, I'm deducting twenty points from Slytherin."
Draco's face turned a furious red. "You can't do that! You're just trying to make me look bad!"
"I'm enforcing the rules," I replied evenly. "If you can't control your behavior, you'll face the consequences. Now, get to your next class."
Draco shot one last scornful look at Hermione before storming off down the hall, his footsteps echoing angrily. I watched him go, feeling a mix of frustration and relief.
After calming Hermione following the altercation, I gently directed her to return to class too.I turned to head back to my office, to think about how I can stop dracos behaviour, I unexpectedly came face-to-face with Lucius Malfoy. I didn't expect him to be in Hogwarts right now.
Lucius was standing in the corridor, his posture rigid and imposing. His cold eyes fixed on me, and a dangerous glint flickered in his gaze.
"Professor (Y/L)," Lucius said, his voice low and menacing. "A word, if you please."
I straightened, trying to mask my unease, already anticipating that this would take a turn for the worse. "Mr. Malfoy. How can I help you?"
Lucius moved closer, his presence making me feel even more uneasy. "I heard about your little intervention with my son. You've clearly overstepped your bounds."
"I was simply upholding the school's rules," I said, struggling to sound as confident as I felt anxious. "Draco's behavior was unacceptable."
Lucius's gaze was icy as he took another step forward. "You think you have the right to discipline my son? I suggest you be very careful, Professor."
Before I could respond, Severus Snape appeared at the end of the corridor, his expression dark and serious. He walked swiftly towards us, his presence radiating authority.
"Lucius," Severus said, his voice firm and commanding. "I'll handle this matter. Let me take care of it."
Lucius's eyes shifted to Severus, his expression one of grudging recognition. "Very well, Severus. But don't think this is the end of it."
