"I'd rather die of thirst," I snap.
Kol chuckles in amusement. "You know, my brother bragged about his plan to complete Jeremy's hunter's mark. It was easy enough to track this lot down. They were all hiding in the shadows. Now, killing young vampires is easy or old ones, for that matter."
Damon crosses his arms. "Why? What's it to you either way?"
"Because, you fools, in your zeal to find the cure, you risk waking someone very dangerous."
"Oh...You must be talking about Silas. It's not like you haven't already whined to me about him," I sigh.
"Enough, darling. What do the rest of you know of him?"
"Nothing. Don't want to. Not our problem," Damon says carelessly.
"Isn't it? A few hundred years back, I came across a group that worshipped Silas. His followers told me that he would rise again, and when he did, he would trigger the end of all time. You know, being an immortal, you can see why I'm opposed to time's ending. So I murdered all of them. And now, here you are willing to risk raising him in your search for the cure. I can't exactly sit back and let that happen, can I?"
"We're not going to back off the cure cause you were told one too many scary bedtime stories, you idiot."
Kol pushes Damon and I immediately attempt to go to Damon's defense. Kol catches my fist and holds my arm tightly. "Jeremy, we were mates in Colorado. You're a smart lad. Why don't you call off this imbecilic treasure hunt?"
Jeremy holds up the bow. "I'm not calling anything off, mate."
Kol takes a step backwards, his grip still tight on me. "Well I could kill you. But then, I'd have to deal with the hunter's curse. And I, I don't particularly feel like being haunted for the next century."
He looks down at me, still smirking. "Better idea. I'll just kill your sister." Kol throws me into a headlock and I suddenly feel powerless. I may have immense strength over humans, but to an Original, I'm hardly anything.
I also realize that being in Kol's arms has made my heart rate rise for reasons other than me being in a headlock. "Kol. Please," I beg.
Kol looks down and we make intense eye contact. We both breathe heavily. He caves and lets me go. "It is quite hard to resist you, love. Maybe I'll rip off your brother's arms instead."
Kol rushes at Jeremy, but Damon rams Kol into the wall and head-butts him.
"Jeremy, run!"
Jeremy flees, and Damon continues to hit Kol. "Alivia! You too! Go! Now!"
I hesitate but make my way to the door but instead, my body falls to the ground. Kol has grabbed my leg from behind. "Ouch. That must of hurt. Hopefully I didn't leave a mark on your pretty skin."
Kol chuckles. "Now, let's have some fun." He looks me in the eyes to compel me. I feel him pull me upwards, securing me in his arms.
"Let me go."
Kol ignores me, forcibly moving me towards a chair. "Ah, reminds me of just days ago. Why don't you take a seat, darling?"
I have no choice but to go. "And, for every time you try and help Damon, you have to stab yourself."
I'm shaking with rage. "I hate you."
Kol has a twisted grin on his face. "Be a good girl and sit unless you want to get hurt."
The Original vampire puts Damon in a headlock and shoves a stake into his hand. "Very good. Now stab yourself a little bit further," he commands.
He compels Damon to obey and Damon pushes the stake into himself further. He groans in pain. "If you're gonna kill me, do it like a man."
"I don't want to kill you. I just wanted to make sure you could be compelled." Yet, Kol doesn't let Damon stop.
That's it. I jump out of the chair I'm confined to and speed over to reach Damon. I knock the stake out of his hand. Only then, I find my hand shaking and reaching toward it.
I try to stop it, but the compulsion is stronger. I bring the stake up to my chest and slowly bring it closer. "Stop," Kol compels me.
The stake is held only an inch away from me. "So, you do have a heart," I comment.
"Don't test me, darling."
Damon still sits in a pool of his own blood. lI'm gonna rip out your spleen."
"You ought to be thanking me. I mean you don't really want the cure found. You fancy Elena. I mean, even more now that she's a vampire. Admit it. The last vestige of her humanity is her annoying little brother Jeremy, and deep, deep down, I bet you want him dead, don't you?"
I look at Kol, disgusted. "Damon may be selfish at times, but not for Elena. He loves my sister."
Damon nods at me. "Nope. Never would want him dead."
Kol is laughing. "You're lying. I bet you'd love to rip his head right off. And I'm gonna give you your wish."
He crouches down in front of Damon and compels him. "You're not gonna remember what I say, but you're going to find Jeremy Gilbert, and when you do, you're going to kill him."
"Kol, no!"
Damon motionlessly gets up, a blank look in his eyes. I frantically pull out my phone, texting Jeremy. I tell him to leave the area and not look back. I tell him to not go anywhere near Damon.
Kol sees me texting and grabs my phone right from my hands. "We can't have you getting any ideas, now can we, sweetheart?"
He drops my phone and it shatters. I gasp. "You absolute asshole."
My eyes fall into the stake in my hands that I almost forgot was there. I swiftly make a move to stab Kol with it, but he catches it midair in a furious breath. I try to tear it free from him, but his hand moves other mine, firmly holding the stake and my hand midair.
"Really? After sparing you, this is how you repay me?"
"You just compelled Damon to kill my brother,"
I hiss."Collateral damage. But it really makes me curious just how stupid you are- challenging an Original vampire." He leans closer, tilting his head as if wondering what thought process is going through my mind. "You're just a little baby vampire, Alivia. No match for me."
He rips the stake from my hands, causing me to tumble forward and crash into his chest. Kol is bending down, and catches me when I fall into him, chuckling in amusement. He holds me as if he's going to help me up, but then he just pushes me back down to the ground.
"You know nothing about me. I'm not afraid of you."
Kol winks. "See you later, darling."
He's gone.
In just minutes, I finally find Damon. He's in a craze. "Alivia... Kol compelled me to kill your brother. I- I just figured it out."
"I know. I'm sorry, Damon."
"Sorry for what?"
I snap his neck and grab his motionless body. "Jesus, you're heavy," I mumble. Normally I wouldn't have been able to pull that off, but I think I just caught him off guard.
I go to call Stefan, but then I remember that I don't have my phone. Shit. It seems like I'm going to have to find Damon's keys and bring him back to the Salvatore house myself.
It feels like forever while I'm hauling Damon to the car. I weakly shove him in the passenger seat and find the keys in his pocket.
I finally knock on the doors to the mansion and Stefan answers. "Alivia. What's wrong?"
I give Stefan a weak smile and move so he can see his brother's body behind me. "Surprise? Damon's compelled to kill Jeremy."
"So you're asking me to help detain him."
"Correct."
I feel horrible once Stefan tells me his plan. He's going to drain Damon of blood and lock him up, hopefully ending the compulsion.
Curse Kol.
