Lingering Memories

Evan stared at her contact information on his phone; he'd changed her name several times. He felt a strange mix of emotions, his thoughts swirling. Evan tried different variations of her name, but none felt quite right. He knew he had no right to call her Bec anymore; that intimacy had faded long ago. But still, he couldn't bring himself to call her Rebecca. It sounded too formal, too distant. Becca seemed too casual for someone he'd once loved deeply. He let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair. 'Why was it so difficult to decide what to call her? And why did it affect him so much?'

He put his phone down on the counter and took a deep breath, trying to clear his mind. He needed to focus on the fact that he was going to see Rebecca again tomorrow, not obsessing over what to call her. He headed to the bathroom to shower, hoping the hot water would clear his mind and ease the tension in his shoulders. As he let the water run over his body, his mind drifted back to her.

"Damnit," he muttered to himself as he washed his hair. He scrubbed at his scalp harder as if trying to scrub away the thoughts. But they wouldn't go away. He stepped out of the shower and dried himself off, staring at his reflection in the mirror. He looked older, more weary than he remembered. The last few years hadn't been easy. He wrapped a towel around his waist and headed to his bedroom, grabbing a pair of boxer briefs, but he didn't put them on right away. He sat down on the edge of the bed, his thoughts still swirling. He wondered what Rebecca was doing now if she was thinking about him as much as he was thinking about her. He knew he should get some sleep, but he couldn't seem to shut his mind off.

He dropped his towel and quickly pulled on his boxer briefs. With a heavy sigh, he collapsed onto his bed and stared at the ceiling.

His mind began to recall memories from the past, moments he had spent with you, moments that felt like they happened just yesterday. A wave of nostalgia and reminiscence washed over him, tugging at his heart.
