Stefan's POV:

For over a century, I have lived in secret; hiding in the shadows, alone in the world. Until now. I am a vampire. And this is my story.

"I shouldn't have come home. I know the risk. But I had no choice. I have to know them."

Louise's POV:

"Dear diary, today will be different. It has to be. I will smile, and it will be believable. My smile will say "I'm fine, thank you" "Yes, I feel much better". I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents. I will start fresh. Be someone new. It's the only way I'll  make it through."

When I finished writing, I stared down at the page with a frown. I didn't know if I could really start fresh so easily. But I knew that I had to. For Jeremy and Lena. I cared more about their grief than mine. And I had to stay strong for them. With a deep and shaky breath, I march out of my room and down the stairs.

When I walk into the kitchen, I see Lena leaning back against the counter where the coffee maker was with a mug of coffee in her hands, holding it up to her chest. Jenna was moving around the kitchen frantically, clearly in a rush. I walk over to the coffee maker and grab a mug from the cabinet right in front of me. When I begin to pour the coffee, I hear the refrigerator door open behind me.

"Toast. I can make toast," Jenna speaks shortly after.

"It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna," I reply, placing the coffee maker down after the mug was almost full and then turned around to face Jenna beside Lena. Jenna pushes the refrigerator door shut and rushes over to her bag that was placed on top of the island. My eyes shift over to Jeremy when he walks in.

"Is there coffee?" he questions and when he spots the mug of coffee in my hand, he approaches me and gently takes it while giving me a fake smile. I roll my eyes and grab another mug, pouring the rest of the coffee into it.

"Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared," Jenna mumbles to herself as she rummages through her bag. When she pulls a ten dollar bill out of it, she steps toward us, holding the money between her fingers. "Lunch money?"

I shake my head, taking a drink of my coffee. "I'm good," Lena declines, shaking her head as well when Jenna looks at her. She locks eyes with Jeremy, a knowing look on her face and sure enough, Jeremy snatches the money away from her before turning away.

"Anything else?" she moves back over to her previous spot. "A number-two pencil?" she murmurs sarcastically and shoves her wallet into her bag. "What am I missing?" she looks at Lena and I.

I place my mug on the island, remembering something suddenly. "Don't you have that big presentation today?"

"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at... " she raises her arm to check her watch. "Now. Crap!" she sighs sharply and takes a clip out of her strawberry blonde hair, letting it fall down past her shoulders.
