32. Love's Archangel

After a long time I sniffed, calming down a bit.

Me : You know, back at professor's Mikata, the analyst, I promised you that I would find a fitting name for you, one you would like. I have an idea if you want. There is this character in a manga, who hunt man eating demons. His family was slaughtered by a demon but despite everything he still try to understand them, he still pity them and try to free them of their sufferings, even though unfortunately he often have to kill them to protect everyone. You are, too, kind and compassionate, just like him. His name his Tanjiro.

?? Tanjiro... I really like this name and character ! Tanjiro... Tanjiro, my name is Tanjiro now ! Thank you Izuku !

I smiled, amused, his joy spreading to me.

Me : I'm pleased that you like the name, let's become heroes together to save people, Tanjiro !

He agreed, I could almost feel him nodding in my mind.

Determined, I decided to read the analysis of my... our quirk. I smoothed out the papers and leaned over the document titled « Love's Archangel ». My quirk.

« At the beginning, Izuku was a normal child. But like most of us, he began to develop a quirk factor before his fourth birthday. However, his factor consist of the faculty to change the Love he receive - through marks of genuine affection and later by simple absorption of surrounding love - into energy. As such, it went unnoticed because said energy was instantly used to feed the growth of an quirk entity in him.

The entity consumes a fixed amount of energy by simply existing. But in Izuku's case, this energy was provided to it. The entity being immortal it didn't kill it, however Izuku's quirk factor was struggling to give it energy despite everything, which caused pains and tiredness to the teen.

Me : It isn't your fault.

« The moment Izuku was finally able to receive the energy he needed to live normally, this energy was transferred to the entity to start its development, which had been stunted. This enabled the teen's body to no longer suffer, but he wasn't able to develop new capacities as long as the entity wasn't completely formed. When this entity finally reach a suitable stage of growth, it developed a two-way link with the teen, symbolized by his eyes' transformation, now able to glow.

The entity still isn't completely mature. The more energy it receives, the more it will develop, and with the relationship going both ways, Izuku will be able to use the new abilities of his entity. »

Tanjiro : I see, that's why I still feel incomplete... I hope I'll become powerful and polyvalent enough to help you.

Me : No matter what happens I know you'll help me, even if only by advising me like you're currently doing. Knowing that I have someone with me that I can rely on is really reassuring you know !

« If he accumulate more energy then what his entity need to survive, it can be used in too ways. Either by the entity to grow, if it is still immature, or by Izuku to use one of his capacities.

It is important to note that the entity and Izuku aren't using the same energy, they each have their own « reserve ». Izuku's is filled when he give/receive love, and emptied when he uses is abilities. His reserve is limitless. On the contrary, the entity's reserve fills itself over time or if Izuku gives him energy, but has a fixed size. It can still grow if Izuku gives it a lot of energy at once. If it is fixed at 10 energy units, full, and he suddenly gives it 20 energy units, it will grow and fix its size to 30 units. »
