"Let's go?" He urged her as they stepped out of the train station that brought them from their hotel to Central Park, the surprisingly nippy June air blowing on his hair.
She sighed, trying to hold herself together. New York wasn't good to her the last time she was here. A year ago, she had walked Broadway alone with a broken heart.
But work brought her back, and she knew it was inevitable that she had to face the dark memories she tried to forget.
"It's okay. Come, on," he tilted his head as he gave her an encouraging smile.
They have known each other for years but were never really friends until, once again, work intervened, throwing them together, early last year.
Now...
He was ...
Her unexpected.
Her curveball.
The first person that made her smile again after her storm.
"You know we really don't need to do this," she frowned. She has told him the story and now he was on a mission.
"Yes, we do." He insisted.
"No." She shook her head.
"Yes, I promised," he insisted. "I promised that I'll do this with you and show you that this shouldn't hurt you anymore, that New York should be a smile .... should be happy."
His words, of course, made her smile.
"I may not be able to undo what he's done ... but maybe I can make you forget," he offered her his hand. "Walk with me and let's explore the park. Let's find John Lennon's Imagine memorial and Alice in Wonderland's statue like you wanted to. Let's make new memories ... happy memories that can erase and replace the bad ones you want to forget."
She sighed as her heart swirled with every word he said. She was crying now but not for the pain New York gave her a year ago but for the happiness that New York was giving her now.
Looking up to him, meeting his gaze, she smiled despite her tears. She nervously placed her hand on his, wiping her tears, ready to forget and ready to love again.

Author's Note: I wrote this in 2012, maybe a year after we met and saw Kim in a show in NY or was it NJ? Took it down because you know ... LOL ... and now back & tweaked for the 2024 choose your own ship version. Guess who my ship is when rewriting this ficlet (because apparently, they did go to NY :P)
