You stirred awake, the white ceiling of Ieiri’s infirmary coming into focus as the fog of unconsciousness lifted.

“Y/n… you're awake. I'm glad,” Yuuji’s voice broke through the silence, filled with a mixture of relief and concern. He was immediately by your side, his face etched with worry. You tried to speak, but your voice was little more than a rasp.

“Yuu…jii,” you croaked, attempting to sit up, but Yuuji gently pressed you back down, his hands firm yet careful.

“Lay down, Y/n,” he insisted, his tone serious, almost scolding. “Ieiri-san said that Nanamin found you in the sewers, injured. I thought you asked someone to come pick you up? You didn’t tell me you were going after that curse.” His voice held a note of betrayal, his eyes searching yours for an explanation.

You bit your lip, thoughts swirling as you tried to come up with an excuse, but nothing seemed sufficient. Instead, you sighed, your mind shifting to a more pressing concern. You quickly summoned Pochita into your arms, and a cold wave of dread washed over you as you saw its canine form, still mangled and bloody.

“Dammit,” you cursed under your breath, trying to channel your reverse cursed technique, but every attempt seemed to worsen Pochita’s condition. Whatever that patchwork curse had done to your creation was beyond your immediate ability to repair. You needed to find a solution quickly, but Yuuji’s presence complicated things.

“Y/n…” Yuuji’s voice pulled you from your thoughts. You looked up at him, his expression somber, eyes clouded with grief. “Junpei’s mother was found dead,” he said quietly, the words heavy with mourning. “I-I want to help him. I think I could save Junpei, but Nanamin said I might get in the way.” His voice wavered, uncertainty and desperation mingling in his tone.

An idea formed in your mind, dark and dangerous, but one you knew could work in your favor. “You should,” you rasped, your voice strained but determined. “Junpei… I think you could save him.” You insisted, despite the knot of dread tightening in your chest at the thought of Yuuji putting himself in harm’s way.

Yuuji hesitated, torn between wanting to protect you and his desire to help Junpei. “But… what about you?” he asked, clearly conflicted. “You’re hurt. I should be here with you.”

You forced a smile, suppressing the pain that flared with every breath. “I’ll be fine, Yuuji,” you assured him, though the words tasted bitter on your tongue. “Right now, Junpei needs you more. You have to go.”

“But—” Yuuji began, still reluctant to leave your side.

“Please, Yuuji,” you interrupted, your tone firm despite the weakness in your voice. “I’ll rest here. Ieiri-san will take care of me, but Junpei… he needs someone who can reach him before it’s too late.”

Yuuji’s resolve wavered for a moment longer before he finally nodded, the determination returning to his eyes. “Okay… I’ll go. But I’ll come back as soon as I can,” he promised, squeezing your hand before stepping away.

As he left the room, you exhaled shakily, leaning back against the pillows, exhaustion washing over you. You hated the idea of Yuuji in danger, but it was a calculated risk you were willing to take. Besides, even from afar, you knew you could protect him if necessary.

“I’m fine, Ieiri-san, really,” you rasped, your voice still raw and broken as you slid off the hospital bed, your legs unsteady but determined. Ieiri watched you with concern etched deeply into her features, her gaze flicking between you and the bloodied form of Pochita that materialized on the bed. His small, battered body looked almost pitiful against the sterile white sheets.
