Bonnie was panicked. Nothing anyone could do would calm her. It started from the moment Jasper said goodbye to her. Bella and Edward had arrived from Denali. The couple were very stand offish to each other but she didn't care. All that she cared about were that they were headed to Volterra. The entire coven. She kissed him goodbye as she received a glare from Bella then left and didn't let the first tear fall until she was in the car and on the way back to Charlies.
Bonnie got home and started making dinner. Charlie came in and looked at her. "You okay?" he asked her and she shook her head. Charlie opened his arms and she allowed herself to be embraced by him.
"I'm so scared."
"I'm a little scared too. Not just about Jasper and the Cullens. About Bella. I- I got this gut feeling I'm not going to see her again," he said softly.
"I'm sorry, Papa Bear," Bonnie said and Charlie chuckled.
"That's alright." He kissed the top of her head, "I have you. And I have Morgan. Plenty of daughters to go around. And is that steak I smelled?"
"Steak and roasted potatoes. I also made string beans which you have to eat, you promised Morgan. but I also made my Grams baked mac and cheese recipe."
"Sounds delicious. I'll change out of my uniform then we'll eat." She nodded and released him, going back to check on the food.
Over dinner, they talked about Charlie's work. And how Mike Newton's grandfather had developed dementia and was now always threatening people. Luckily all he had was a fishing rod with no hook and Charlie removed it from him quickly before driving him back to the home. Bonnie told Charlie about her community college classes. There wasn't much to talk about but she realized she was smarter than she thought she had been in high school. But traveling had also helped her gain some knowledge, especially in her history classes.
Paul and Morgan were having dinner together t their new place. "I have to go soon, babe. Patrol," Paul said as he began scarfing his food down.
"Again? You were just on last night. tHey know you have school, right?"
"Yes, but Sam is prioritizing those still in high school."
"You can't fail classes because of the pack."
"I won't. I'm doing fine. You've been helping a lot. Things will be okay." She nodded and just scooted her food around her plate. "Are you mad at me?"
"Of course not. Why are you patrolling this much?"
"Well I think Sam is just paranoid. Especially with the Cullens gone. Because other vampires know the territory is claimed by them, they respect it. The moment they find out they're gone, they won't care that we're here. They'll think this is a feeding ground." Morgan nodded, she guessed she understood that, "I'll be home as soon as I can."
"I know. I know. I'm just-"
"Worried about the Cullens."
"Just some of them."
"They're your friends. It's okay to worry about them. Why don't you go and sleep at Charlie's place tonight?"
"What?"
"You can help Bonnie." Morgan thought about it. It wasn't the worst idea.
"You sure?"
"I think she needs you."
The Cullens didn't come back for a week. When they did, they called Charlie, Bonnie, and Morgan over. Paul stayed home but he wasn't very comfortable about it. "Hello, Chief Swan, Bonnie, Morgan," Carlisle greeted them at the door and led them inside. Jasper appeared in front of Bonnie the next second and they kissed quickly.
"No need to cry, darlin," he told her.
"I'm just glad you're alright," she said, cupping his face.
"Where's Bella?" Morgan asked. She looked around the room and saw two new vampires. They looked to be related. either Aunt and Niece or Mother and daughter. but they didn't have red eyes. They were traditional vampires, "Who are they?"
"That's what we wanted to talk to you about," Carlisle said.
The three mortals sat down on the couch while most of the vampires stayed standing, except for Jasper who sat next to Bonnie. "So?" Charlie asked after the moment of silence. He could also feel the older new vampire's eyes on him.
"This is Ivy and Ariana," Carlisle said, gesturing to the women.
"Okay. So why were you called to Volterra?"
"The Volturi wanted us to ally with them. Apparently they've been challenged by the Romanians yet again. And they're worried about the Egyptians," Jasper explained, "They want us to promise that if they need the man power, we'll be there."
"Okay, and what did you say?"
"We agreed. It was the safest choice," Carlisle told them.
"And where is Bella?"
"Bella wasn't my mate," Edward said. But that confused the Swan family.
"Okay, but she is your wife. You made that decision," Morgan said.
"I agree. But it was a mistake." Morgan stood up.
"So what?! Did you let them kill her?!"
"Of course not," both Carlisle and Edward protested.
"Then where is she?!"
"As I said, Bella isn't my mate. My mate is Ariana," he said. The girl was standing close to him. But not on top of him. She was brown skinned with waist length neatly twisted locs. Her mother had locs too but they were only to her shoulders and dyed a deep red. "She was being held by the Volturi."
"Why?"
"Because we were the first non red eyed vampires they came across. And in addition to that, we are gifted," Ivy said, she opened her arms and a potted plant flew into them from across the room.
"So you're gifted and traditional vampires. That's interesting, I suppose."
"The Volturi knew if we found out they were holding my mate, we'd align with the Romanians. So they gave us Ivy and Ariana."
"And where is Bella?" Morgan asked slowly.
"She was the one who made the choice," Carlisle said.
"What choice?" Charlie asked.
"The Volturi wanted one of us to stay behind and join their guard. But they wanted either Jasper, myself, or Bella."
"Bella is gifted?"
"She has a shield she can push out. We discovered it while we were in Alaska. I could read her mind." Morgan assumed that didn't go well.
"So she decided to stay while you came home with a new mate? To her father's hometown. You realize you are legally married, yes?" Morgan asked.
"Yes, we've started the divorce proceedings. Bella will stay in Volterra. Ariana and I will travel. I won't be in your hair, I promise." Morgan and Charlie nodded.
"I'm glad you didn't stay," Bonnie said to Jasper.
"Never was gonna be me, love," he said, kissing the side of her head.
"And Ariana's mother came to be with her?" Morgan asked. She felt something else going on.
"Partly," Ivy said with a small smile.
"I'm psychic. I have visions. Not of choices, like Alice, their last coven mate. I see things years into the future," Ariana explained, "I saw the fight between the Volturi and the Romanians. And I saw that us living here would change it. That and more." It seemed to be a loaded answer but Morgan took it at face value for now. But she wasn't happy with the way Ivy kept stealing glances at her father.
