TW: Mentioning of Suicide
Coma
Mentioning of Abusive Parents
_________________________JJ's POV
"Yes, okay Penelope, I understand. No, thank you. You did your best, please don't blame yourself. We'll definitely find a way.
I'll tell her, I promise. See you later."
I hang up and let the phone sink resignedly before leaning against the wall of the hospital corridor and laying my head back.
A long sigh leaves my lips and only now do I realize how incredibly exhausted I am.
The long, rather sleepless night next to Y/N's bed and the devastating news have robbed me of my last energy and everything inside me feels somehow numb and tense at the same time.
I rub my temple with one hand as the door to the hospital room opens and Emily appears. She closes the door quietly behind her, as if closing the door too loudly would disturb Y/N.
"And? What did she say. Can she do something?"
Emily asks nervously and stops in front of me.My ringing phone had jolted us both out of our half-sleep, but Emily stayed sitting next to Y/N, unable to leave her alone any longer than necessary.
After yesterday's message, we wanted to use every moment we had left at her side.
Use it to show her that we are there and that we are not abandoning her.
That we are fighting.
Maybe it will motivate her to fight too.I can see in Emily's tired expression that her strength is also at an end.
Only concern for Y/N seems to be keeping her upright, but her legs are shaking suspiciously and she is swaying slightly.
Still, she makes no move to sit down, only weakly supporting herself with one hand on the door frame while she looks at me expectantly.
I wordlessly take her hand and pull her towards the chairs lined up against the wall a few meters away.Emily sits down reluctantly at first, but then leans back into the chair, exhausted, and closes her eyes for a moment.
"Penelope tried everything." I begin to report hesitantly and Emily opens her eyes again. Her look clearly reflects my feelings.
Disbelief, despair, worry.
"The woman, whoever she really is, seems to have people with knowledge behind her.
She calls herself Christine Y/L/N and the documents say she is Y/N's mother's big sister, although she is definitely younger.
So all the documents confirm her statements that she is the aunt, but nothing else can be found about her.
But whoever falsified this data was so good that Penelope can't change or delete it."
I explain resignedly and sink into the chair next to Emily.
"She did everything she could to be able to take Y/N with her in two days...and she'll get away with it if Y/N doesn't wake up soon."
I add sadly and point to the closed door opposite us that leads to Y/N's patient room.
Emily groans and puts her hands over her face.
I place my hand on her bent back and stroke her gently to calm her down. But I also feel like crying and giving up.
The long nights next to Y/N's hospital bed, the worry and guilt that eat away at me and now this fake aunt who just wants to tear Y/N away from her familiar safe environment, all of this is almost unbearable.
The thought that Y/N might wake up in a strange hospital at some point, surrounded by people that she doesn't know...
She'll be so confused.
And scared.
And maybe she'll regret waking up in the first place. And who knows what the aunt and Y/N's mother have planned.
This is definitely not about a long-awaited family reunion.
The last time Y/N's mother sent someone for
Y/N, she was almost sold.
Then her mother actively encouraged her to commit suicide.
Her new plans probably won't be any more loving.
