The night wore on in a peaceful silence, the gentle hum of the fire and the soft rustle of the old building around him. I lay there, still awake but relaxed, feeling the comforting weight of Lucy's presence beside me. I glanced down at her, taking in the sight of her sleeping form. The tight nightgown she wore accentuated every curve of her body, making her even more beautiful than usual. The fabric clung gently to her, its soft material highlighting her delicate features and the graceful lines of her figure.
As I observed her, I felt a profound sense of admiration and affection. She was fast asleep with her head on my chest, her breath warm and even against my skin, it was slow and even, a rhythm that soothed my own restless thoughts. I ran my fingers through her hair, enjoying the serene calm that had settled between us.
Suddenly, I felt a soft stir beside me, followed by the gentle shift of weight. I looked up to find Lucy stirring awake, her eyes blinking open with a hint of confusion and sleepiness. She rubbed her eyes and, without a word, moved to sit up.
Before I could ask her what was wrong, she shifted closer, straddling my lap and facing me directly. Her gaze was unwavering as she settled comfortably, her hands resting on my shoulders for support. I could feel the heat of her body against mine, and I noticed the soft glow of the room cast a warm, yellowish light that accentuated her features.
Lucy's eyes were filled with a mixture of determination and affection as she held my face in her hands, her fingers gently cupping my cheeks. The touch was tender, almost reverent, as she looked deeply into my eyes.
"Lockwood," she began softly, her voice a soothing whisper in the quiet room. "I need to tell you something."
Her eyes, usually so bright and clear, seemed to hold a depth of emotion that made my heart race. I nodded, giving her the space to continue.
"I love you," she said, her voice steady but filled with warmth. "I love everything about you."
She paused for a moment, her gaze wandering over my face, taking in the details with a loving scrutiny. "I love your eyes, the way they always seem to see right through me. And your hair, even when it's all tousled and messy—it just looks so perfectly you."
Her hands drifted down to my chest, her fingers brushing against my bare skin as she spoke. I felt a flush of warmth spread across my face at her touch. "And... well, this might be a little embarrassing," she admitted with a shy smile, "but I really like your abs. They look so nice in this light."
The compliment, though playful, was sincere and made me smile. Her eyes were full of admiration and affection, and I could see the soft glow of the room reflecting in them. She continued, her voice barely more than a murmur.
"I love the way you make me feel safe, even when you're dealing with your own fears. I love how you look at me, and how you hold me close. It's like... like I'm finally where I'm supposed to be."
Her hands lingered on my face, her touch warm and comforting. I reached up to cover her hands with mine, feeling a surge of emotion that I could hardly put into words. Her confession was a balm to my soul, soothing the lingering shadows of my doubts and fears.
Lucy leaned in, her forehead resting gently against mine. Her breath was warm on my skin, and I could feel her heartbeat syncing with mine. "I just wanted you to know that," she whispered, her eyes meeting mine with an earnest, loving gaze.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her closer in a tender embrace. My heart was full, a blend of relief and happiness that washed over me. I leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "Thank you, Lucy," I said quietly, my voice thick with emotion. "I needed to hear that. I needed you."
She smiled, her eyes closing as she nestled against me. We stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other's warmth, the world outside forgotten. As I held her close, I felt a sense of completeness that I had never known before.
In that cozy, yellow-lit room, with Lucy's warmth against me, I knew that whatever came next, we would face it together. And in that moment, that was enough.
