The rain pattered steadily against the windows, a soothing backdrop to the scene unfolding in Y/N's cozy room. Kuroo had dropped by to deliver some food prepared by his mother, but the storm outside had turned his quick visit into an impromptu sleepover. Y/N, as usual, didn't show her excitement, but deep down, she didn't mind the company.
Kuroo found himself in Y/N's room, surveying the space with interest. Her room was decorated with pictures—most of them featuring him or the two of them together. He noticed a photo of them at the beach, Y/N with a bright smile, and he couldn't help but grin.
Wow, she really keeps all these photos of us... I must be her favorite person, Kuroo thought with a smug grin, his chest swelling with pride. Does she look at them when I'm not around? Wonder if she stares at my handsome face when she misses me...
Suddenly, his phone buzzed with a video call from the volleyball team. It was the middle of the day, and he had completely forgotten that the team might want to check in with him.
As Y/N went to take a shower, Kuroo answered the call, bracing himself for the usual antics of his teammates. They appeared on the screen, and it didn't take long for them to start their playful teasing.
"Kuroo, is that you? What's up, pretty boy?" Yamamoto voice boomed through the speaker.
"Got a hot date or something?" Kai added with a smirk.
Kenma, lounging lazily in the background, quipped, "Or are you just staying over because you can't stand the rain?"
Kuroo chuckled, ready to respond, when suddenly the bathroom door creaked open. He glanced up just in time to see Y/N stepping out, her hair dripping wet and wearing one of his shirts—slightly transparent—and shorts.
The sight was enough to make Kuroo's jaw drop. He nearly knocked over his phone in his haste to end the video call.
"Wait, wait, hold on!" Kuroo stammered, fumbling with his phone. "Gotta... uh... go!"
The screen went dark, and Kuroo stared, wide-eyed, as Y/N walked toward him. She looked both amused and slightly bewildered at his reaction.
He turned back to Y/N, who looked at him with confusion. "What's wrong with you?"
Kuroo quickly averted his eyes, his face turning bright red. "N-nothing. Just... you're, uh... wearing my shirt."
Y/N glanced down at herself, noticing how much of her was... showing. "Oh." She shrugged, not really caring. "I didn't feel like wearing my own clothes."
Y/N then headed to her vanity to start her skincare routine. Kuroo, unable to tear his eyes away, admired her from a distance. He cleared his throat, trying to distract himself.
"So," Kuroo said, attempting a casual tone, "did you know that you're like a rare book? Because every time I look at you, I find something new I adore."
Y/N glanced at him, her lips curling into a smirk. "Smooth, Tetsu. But I'm not sure if I'm flattered or just amused."
Kuroo grinned. "Oh, come on! I'm just warming up."
As Y/N finished her routine and dried her hair, she took her book to read on the bed, Kuroo settled down on the floor, trying not to stare but failing spectacularly. The room was lit only by the moonlight streaming through the window and the soft, rhythmic patter of the rain.
"You know, it's kind of creepy how you just keep staring at me," Y/N said, not looking up from her book.
Kuroo shrugged. "I can't help it. You're fascinating."
"Uh-huh," she said flatly, flipping a page. "Sure."
The peaceful atmosphere was suddenly interrupted by a loud click, followed by darkness. The power had gone out. The room was pitch-black, save for the dim glow of moonlight streaming in through the window.
Kuroo practically jumped out of his skin. "Whoa! What just happened?!"
Y/N sighed, sitting up and putting her book away. "It's just a blackout."
"Oh... right," Kuroo mumbled, still trying to calm his racing heart. "I knew that."
Y/N moved closer to him, feeling her way to the bed. Kuroo, eager to be close to her, shifted closer as well. They chatted, the darkness only heightening their closeness. Y/N teased him more than usual, making Kuroo laugh.
"You know," Y/N said playfully, "for someone who's supposed to be a tough volleyball captain, you sure are easily spooked by bugs and power outages."
Kuroo laughed, brushing her hair away from her face. "Hey, I'm not afraid of bugs. I'm just... surprised. And I wasn't scared of the blackout. Just, uh, startled."
Y/N chuckled, leaning in. "You're adorable when you're flustered, you know."
Kuroo's heart skipped a beat. "I'll take that as a compliment. And speaking of compliments, I've got one more for you."
"What's that?" Y/N asked, her voice softening.
He took a deep breath, looking into her eyes. "I was wondering if I could court you, Y/N. I know we've been together for a while, but I'd like to make you my first and last. What do you say?"
Y/N was momentarily taken aback, but a soft smile spread across her face. "Are you sure, Tetsu? It's not exactly the most romantic setting with the blackout and all."
Kuroo chuckled, holding her hand gently. "Romantic setting or not, I mean it. I want you in my life, officially and forever."
There was a beat of silence as Y/N processed his words. Then, she nodded slowly. "Okay. Yes, Tetsurou. I'd love that."
The two of them gazed into each other's eyes, the moonlight casting a gentle glow on their faces. Without another word, they leaned in, sharing a kiss that was both passionate and tender. Kuroo's hands found their way around Y/N's waist, pulling her closer, while Y/N's hands rested on his back, her fingers tangling in his hair.
The kiss deepened, their emotions pouring into each touch and caress. It was a calm, beautiful moment, a perfect blend of affection and longing. Despite having shared many kisses before, this one felt different—more meaningful, more memorable.
As they finally broke apart, both of them were breathless, their faces flushed with emotion. Kuroo smiled, his eyes sparkling. "You know, I think this might be my favorite blackout ever."
Y/N laughed softly, resting her forehead against his. "Mine too. Thanks for making it special."
Kuroo grinned, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "Anytime, Y/N. Anytime."
They remained there in the darkness, embracing each other, the rain outside serving as a gentle lullaby. In that moment, with only the light of the moon and the warmth of each other, everything felt perfectly right.
