"Ethan?"
"Yea New-bee."
"You know you'll have to stop calling me that one day right?"
"Not any time soon, you've been here for two weeks." Ethan says, with amused eyes.
I groan. "Why don't you just use my name?"
"Because then it wouldn't annoy you."
"Why do you wanna annoy me?" I grumble, taking another bite of my cereal.
"Because it gets a reaction out of you?" He shrugs.
Dahlia comes in the kitchen noting my bowl of cereal. "It's Sunday and you're eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast?" She gives me a really? look as if I'm, the kid who's spent his whole life away from society, supposed to know that.
"Yeah..?"
"Ignore her, she has an obsession with healthy nutritious breakfasts." Ethan says sparing me a glance from the cabinet door he's trying to fix.
"Will you put on a stupid shirt." Dahlia complains.
"Come on, you know your enjoying the view. I promise I won't tell anyone how much your eyes love my abs." He says with a grin, momentarily putting a screwdriver in his mouth to hold.
"Haha that's so funny." Dahlia deadpans.
"So, who's dating who in this huge apartment?" I ask, growing bored of their subconscious flirting.
"Sofia and Lorenzo... obviously. And that's pretty much it from the 20 year olds." Dahlia answers.
"Ooohhh though I am seeing this guy. And he's perfect."Ethan's interest in the conversation suddenly flies off the roof once Dahlia started a rant on the guy that's supposedly the one. Whatever that means.
"So how do you like your parents so far?" Ethan asks, interrupting her rant.
"Parent? Or parents?"
"Parents"
"My dad seems pretty cool...my birth giver, well, I guess she's..." anxiety prickles at the back of my neck. Lie. "She was great!"
I don't miss the suspicious shared glance between Ethan and Dahlia before they both turn to me, Ethan putting down his tools as he fully faces me. "So why didn't you wanna stay with her?"
"I-"
"Hi kids, can I talk to Kai really quick?" The woman I recognize as my grandma comes in the kitchen.
They both nod, leaving with a kiss on her cheek.
"Kai?"
"Yeah?"
"I- well I was hoping we could spend the day together. I want to get to know my grandson." She proposes with a warm smile.
"Doing what?" I ask, taking another bite.
"What do you like to do for fun?"
I freeze. I haven't done anything for fun since I could learn how to walk. Barely even then. I shrug. "Don't know."
"Not one thing?" She asks, her eyes desperate. I notice they're green, like Dahlia's.
"Not one opportunity."
"Oh. Well would you like to come take the opportunity I'm giving you?"
"What do you mean?"
"We could figure out what you like together. We can go ice skating, painting pottery, maybe watch a movie?" She asks, her eyes growing more hopeful for every option.
