Atomic Abyss

Claude and Ranger Ranger sat in the back of a cold and dark police transport, Claude's hands were bound in cold metal cuffs, Ranger Ranger sat opposite him.

"I would like once again to apologise for this, please understand, I am simply doing what I've been instructed, the safety of the people comes first, always. You won't be contained long, just until you are deemed safe and made a citizen."

"By the way, I don't believe I got your name earlier."

Claude glanced at Ranger Ranger "Claude, my name's Claude."

Ranger Ranger nodded. "Understood, Claude, a human found outside Arhke is highly unusual, might I ask what you were doing out there"

Claude shook his head "I don't know, I woke up there and have no memory of how I got there."

Ranger Ranger looked puzzled "You don't know? This is highly unusual Claude!"

Claude rolled his eyes "You don't say."

Suddenly the vehicle ground to a halt, the screeching of tyres echoed through the vehicle as it suddenly jolted beneath them.

Ranger Ranger knocked on the driver's window. "Driver, what's the situation?"

The driver, a man in an Arhke Police uniform turned to Ranger Ranger. "Adrien Miller is back, Pyrebomb, the pyromaniac who got out of prison and then fell off the radar entirely."

"Thank you driver, I shall handle this situation, like a true ranger should!" Ranger Ranger saluted the driver.

"Claude, I shall be leaving the vehicle for a moment, for your own safety, please don't make any attempts to follow me."

Ranger Ranger pushed the handle down with a click, the door creaked open, rays of light seeped into the darkened vehicle.

Ranger Ranger stepped out of the vehicle and disappeared into the light. The sound of shouting followed by loud explosions as the vehicle shook from side to side.

Meanwhile, outside the transport, in a street block surrounded by tall buildings, Ranger Ranger confronted a man dressed in a leather coat which was heavily charred and torn, his black trousers were slightly too short for him and he wore black trainers. He wore a modified gas mask over his face which hid his features and he had burn marks all over his body.

He spoke in a coughed, almost damaged voice. "Ranger Ranger, it's been a while, three years since YOU HUMILIATED ME!!!" He glanced at Ranger Ranger's insignia "Hm, seems you've been promoted since we last fought."

Ranger Ranger stood proud and strong "Adrien Miller, it's been ten months since you were released. I'd thought you'd given up this life for good. Don't you have a family now?"

He glared at Ranger Ranger "Adrien Miller is who I was before, on the job I'm Pyrebomb, you know that Ranger Ranger. You're correct that I now have a family, that's exactly why I'm doing this final job, once this is done I'll never come back, get out of my way!"

Ranger Ranger stood in place "You know I won't do that Adrien, you're endangering innocent lives and defying the law of this city. I shall defeat you and bring you to justice, like a true ranger should!"

Pyrebomb scoffed "Still with that outdated catchphrase of yours, you may be stronger now but I am too, don't underestimate me!"

Ranger Ranger walked towards Pyrebomb, slowly at first and then he sped up a little.

Pyrebomb flicked his wrist in Ranger Ranger's direction, a hissing noise echoed through the street, Ranger Ranger swiftly dropped to his knees and rolled to his side, a car right next to where he was standing exploded moments later, the smell of smoke and burnt fuel permeated the air.
