Basen bristled at Venion's thinly veiled insult towards Cale, his irritation simmering beneath the surface.
"It appears that both young masters Henituse are gracing us with their presence this year." Venion continued casually.
"Yes, as you can plainly see." Basen retorted curtly, his tone indicating his lack of patience for Venion's provocations.
"Indeed, I have always heard commendations for young Master Basen, which is why I am particularly surprised to encounter both of you here." Venion remarked, his gaze shifting back to Cale. Basen instinctively positioned himself in front of Cale, attempting to intercept Venion's gaze, but Cale beat him to it, offering a smile in response.
"Yes, I am indeed that trash." Cale affirmed, uttering the words that Venion intended, yet would never openly express to maintain his noble facade.
The term garbage rolled off Cale's tongue, causing a visible reaction from Venion's lackey.
"One of the most despicable pieces, perhaps." Cale continued, unbothered by Venion's growing discomfort.
A twitch formed at the corner of Venion's mouth, his expression betraying his astonishment at encountering such audacity from Cale. However, Cale remained unfazed.
Marquis Stan held enough power to lead a faction, but Venion could not fully exert his influence over other nobles until he was officially declared the Marquis's successor. Typically, a Marquis would formally designate their successor to ensure their protection and enable them to establish connections from an early age. Yet, Marquis Stan had yet to make such a proclamation.
«There are still three other contenders.» Referring to Venion's two younger sisters and younger brother. Marquis Stan found amusement in the sibling rivalry, with Venion taking pleasure in the torment of the Black Dragon, using it as a reprieve from his familial competition. The Marquis viewed his children's rivalry as an exhilarating pastime, with the eldest son's disability a consequence of this intense competition.
It was a tumultuous household.
«In comparison, our Henituse family boasts considerable size.» Highlighting the stark contrast between their respective family dynamics.
"You are a very interesting individual." Venion responded to Cale's statement with an air of casual indifference. The wealthy earl, residing on the outskirts of the northeast without allegiance to any faction, pondered who would seek to forge connections with his family. Yet, rather than genuine interest, others were more inclined to covet his land.
In truth, Venion harbored no fondness for Cale. He saw in him shades of his own older brother-a dissolute elder and a clever younger sibling. The dynamic between Cale and Basen mirrored Venion's own familial tensions.
Nevertheless, Venion maintained the facade of nobility, deferring the handling of the situation to the Henituses.
"An unexpected delay hindered my progress, but meeting you two has proven fortuitous." Venion remarked, referring to the recent interruption caused by an elderly man. Despite his frustration, he sought to conclude the encounter on an amicable note.
