The sun was dipping low in the sky when Sooyoung arrived home from her stay with her father, a grin plastered on her face as she unpacked in record time. Her mother watched with a knowing smile, used to her daughter's restlessness whenever she was eager to see her friends.
"I'll be back for dinner, promise!", Sooyoung called out, already halfway out the door before her mom could remind her to take it easy.
She couldn't wait to surprise Seungwan, excited to reunite after weeks of being apart. Without a second thought, she made her way to the latter's house, practically skipping down the street.
When she rang the doorbell, it was Mr. Son who answered, his eyes crinkling with a smile as he greeted her.
"Welcome back, dear! Glad to see that you're back home.", Mr. Son said and Sooyoung smiled in response
"Seungwan's upstairs in her room too. Make yourself at home.", Mr. Son added.
"Thank you, uncle~", Sooyoung replied cheerfully, already making her way inside.
She didn't need to ask where Seungwan was— her feet knew the way by heart. Bounding up the stairs, she reached Seungwan's door and, without bothering to knock, swung it open with the full intent of shouting her arrival.
But the moment she entered, her voice caught in her throat.
Seungwan was asleep, her figure buried under the covers, a soft snore escaping her lips. Sooyoung paused, shutting the door behind her as quietly as possible, not wanting to disturb the peaceful scene in front of her.
Her eyes softened as she took in Seungwan's sleeping face, her friend's features relaxed and serene. For a moment, Sooyoung simply stood there, an idea forming in her head.
A mischievous grin tugged at her lips as she tiptoed toward the bed. Slowly, carefully, she climbed onto the mattress, straddling Seungwan's figure beneath the sheets.
The weight of her presence caused Seungwan to stir, but not fully wake. Sooyoung, however, paused before doing anything else, her playful plan faltering as she found herself staring at Seungwan's face.
Up close, Seungwan looked even more beautiful than Sooyoung remembered— her soft lips slightly parted, her skin glowing in the soft light filtering through the window. Sooyoung's heart gave an unexpected flutter as she sat there in silence, taking it all in.
Her gaze trailed down to the faint curve of Seungwan's bare shoulders peeking out from under the blanket, then to the toned lines of her abdomen, partially visible where the covers had slipped.
Just as Sooyoung was lost in her thoughts, Seungwan began to shift beneath her. The weight on her hips made her frown in her sleep, and she shuffled around the bed in confusion. Slowly, Seungwan blinked awake, her groggy eyes landing on the figure looming above her.
Out of reflex, she yelped in surprise and bolted upright, her hands instinctively grabbing onto Sooyoung's thighs for support.
"Sooyoung?!", Seungwan's voice was half-dazed, still waking up as she tried to make sense of the situation.
"When did you get back?", Seungwan added in confusion.
Sooyoung blinked, her brain short-circuiting as she took in the sight of Seungwan sitting up, the blanket now fully slipping off her torso. Her fit abdomen and defined muscles were now fully exposed, catching Sooyoung completely off guard.
The urge to reach out and touch her friend's skin was almost overwhelming, but she quickly shook the thought away, feeling her face flush.
"Uh... just now. I.. I wanted to surprise you.", Sooyoung stammered, trying to focus on her words as her mind whirled. Seungwan blinked again, her sleepy expression gradually softening into a grin.
"Well, you definitely surprised me.", Seungwan laughed lightly, her voice still husky from sleep.
She hadn't even noticed how Sooyoung was eyeing her, too busy adjusting to the fact that her best friend was here, back home, sitting on her lap of all places.
Sooyoung's heart raced in her chest as she tried to regain composure. She quickly slid off Seungwan's lap, sitting beside her on the bed instead, trying to act nonchalant.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up like that. But I couldn't wait to see you.", Sooyoung sheepishly apologized.
"It's okay, I'm glad you're back.", Seungwan said, rubbing the back of her neck and smiling warmly.
For a moment, the room fell into a comfortable silence as they sat next to each other. Sooyoung glanced over at Seungwan, a mix of relief and something deeper swelling inside her.
As much as she had missed her, the sight of Seungwan like this— vulnerable, relaxed, and completely at ease— made her realize just how much more she might be feeling.
But instead of letting those thoughts linger, Sooyoung shook them off and smiled brightly.
"So, what's the plan for the rest of the summer?", Sooyoung curiously asked and Seungwan grinned, already excited to catch up on everything they had missed.
"Well, we definitely need to make up for lost time. Half our summer has already gone by.", Seungwan honestly answered.
"But first, dinner at my place. My mom's making her famous galbi.", Sooyoung commented with a grin and Seungwan's eyes lit up.
"Count me in!", Seungwan happily exclaimed.
And just like that, the tension in the air dissipated, replaced by the easy, familiar energy of two best friends reunited. But somewhere, in the back of Sooyoung's mind, the memory of Seungwan's bare skin and the warmth of her body lingered— just enough to make her wonder what, exactly, was brewing between them.
