"Zayden, leave!" My voice trembles with panic as he lunges at Einri, sword drawn.
"You really think you can defeat me? How amusing!" Einri taunts.
"I may have been weak before, but I'm not the same person you remember."
"Let me decide that," Einri says, waving a hand as a vine lunges toward Zayden.
"No! You want me. Take me instead. Leave him alone," I plead.
"How touching! But this is a family matter. Stay out of it," Einri snaps.
I tug at my bindings, but they won't budge. Suddenly, an idea ignites in my mind. If I can draw a single drop of blood, I can summon Rex.
I scan the area, desperate for something to use. A glint in the corner catches my eye. I stretch my leg, trying to reach the glass shard without drawing Einri's attention.
As the shard pierces my skin, blood trickles down my leg, the crimson drops my only hope to call Rex.
A deafening screech fills the air. Rex is here.
