"You may be a terrible mess but darling, the way you try to piece yourself together, the way you hold yourself tight to bed each night, the way you do everything just to keep yourself in place, is absolutely the most beautiful thing in the universe." - Lukas W.
After years of fervent research and countless failed attempts, they had finally achieved the impossible - the creation of the orb, or Hexcore, as it had been named. It turned out that Sky was the one to put the last piece of the puzzle together. She'd taken an elective class on runes while she was still a student at the Academy, and upon seeing what Viktor was trying to create, remembered an ancient and obscure rune her professor had shown her, one used to animate objects. It had worked perfectly. The Hexcore took shape, floating above the desk as the three scientists cheered and congratulated each other. With Progress Day coming up, this was another invention they could show the world, once they figured out how to work it, of course.
While they celebrated, you remained rooted to the spot, unable to tear your gaze away from the orb. Its immense power radiated from its center, pulsing with an unnatural energy that had bile rising in the back of your throat. The air around it vibrated with each beat of your heart, your balance swayed by dizziness. You were transfixed by this source of raw power, like a moth drawn helplessly towards a flame.
The deafening static buzzed relentlessly in your ear, a warning of the impending doom. Your feet felt like they were weighed down by lead as you took two frantic steps back, your body screaming with fear and confusion. Then, amidst the white noise, you heard a familiar voice - the same one that had spoken to you during your first loss of control. But this time, it seemed to emanate from the very source of the chaos - the Hexcore - almost as if it were alive and taunting you.
"Why do you resist me?" it hissed. "Together we could have such power, we could end the cruelty of this world. We can give you what you desire most, we can save Viktor."
Your breath caught in your throat as you stared at the Hexcore, unable to tear your gaze away. Your hands clenched into fists, nails digging into your palms in a desperate attempt to resist the temptation of touching it. The pulsing energy emanating from the core was both alluring and foreboding, like a siren's call laced with warning. You knew that this was the key to curing Viktor, but the underlying darkness behind its seductive whispers gave you pause, making you hesitate.
"You've barely tasted the power you could wield, and already you've used it to take away his pain," it hissed again. "Imagine what you could do with real, raw magic."
You flinched, it knew too much, and the influence it had over you was too great. You could no longer take any steps back, you were rooted in the spot with only one way to go; forward.
Your heart raced as a slender hand touched your shoulder, a voice calling out to you, muted by the white noise that filled your mind. But it was no use, you were completely consumed by the pull of the Hexcore, feeling your energy drain away with each passing second. Your body trembled and your jaw went slack as you fought against its hold on you.
Would it really hurt to just give in? You would only use the power for good, and you could finally be of use, finally save Viktor. Isn't that why you were here?
Before you could fully absorb the mesmerizing glow of the Hexcore, a figure suddenly appeared in your line of sight, blocking most of it from view. You could still catch glimpses of the light shining out from behind the person's silhouette, and your ears rang as you struggled to catch your breath.
"Come back to us, Miláček," you heard Viktor say as a box was tossed over the Hexcore, ending the last of its hold over you and snapping you back to reality.
