I SIGH, TOSSING MY PHONE OVER TO THE TABLE.
daise.
her latest instagram post stares back at me, vivid and unshakable in my mind. of course, she looks stunning—she always does. it's amelie. she could walk into a room in pajamas, hair a mess, and still look like she belonged on a magazine cover.but this post? it was something else. the red lipstick makes her green eyes pop like emeralds under the sun, and that white dress... god, it hugs her figure so perfectly it's almost painful to look at.
i shouldn't be doing this—thinking about her. five years. it's been five years. i'm here in monaco, in a PR relationship with magui of all people, and yet, my mind keeps circling back to amelie. it's cruel, how the past refuses to stay there.
magui's nice enough, and i'm painfully aware that she likes me. but me? i'm still so deeply, hopelessly in love with amelie.
it's not fair to magui. not really. she's beautiful, sure, and I've caught myself staring at her more than once. but she's not amelie. she'll never be amelie.
amelie is like something out of an old film—a perfect doll brought to life, delicate yet vibrant. her cheeks flush naturally pink, her smile lights up entire rooms, and her laugh... her laugh is the kind that lingers in your chest, even after it's gone.
magui? she's the opposite. sharp, bold, and polished to the point of sterility.
"ready to go?" magui asks, pulling me from my thoughts. she's standing there in a tight purple dress, her platinum blonde hair gleaming under the lights. her perfume is so overpowering it makes my head spin.
i glance at her briefly, my lips pressing into a thin line. "ready as i'll ever be," i reply, dragging my gaze to the mirror before we leave.
at the club
the bass thunders through the walls as we step inside. the place isn't too crowded yet, but it won't take long. i make my way over to daniel, who's grinning like the cheshire cat in the middle of his farewell party.
"danny ric!" i call out, raising my voice to compete with the music.
"landinho!" he yells back, pulling me into one of his infamous bear hugs. i let myself smile for a second—it's impossible not to when daniel's around.
"how are you, mate?" he asks, releasing me.
"good! i heard... i heard amelie might be here tonight?" the words tumble out before I can stop them. i look at him, my expression betraying the desperation i feel.
daniel's grin widens, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "oh, loverboy, she's here. fashionably late, as always." he chuckles, patting my shoulder.
he pauses, his tone shifting into something more serious as he leans in closer. "lando," he says, voice low, "if you want amelie back, magui isn't the way to do it." his eyes flicker briefly toward magui, who's scrolling through her phone near the bar, oblivious.
before i can respond, he's already walking away, leaving his words to settle like lead in my chest.
i glance toward magui, feeling the weight of what daniel just said. before i can process it, a flash of white catches my eye.
my breath hitches.
amelie.
she's here.
