Note: I've left a little easter egg in this chapter for a one-shot I plan to post...See if you can find it;)

Klaus sat at his desk in the study, holding the bank notice Hayley had brought in earlier in one of his hands, and a glass of dark liquor in the other.

The sound of footsteps closing in caught his attention, breaking the stillness and the quiet of the room.

There was a quiet knock before the door creaked open just a tad, "Do you have a minute?" Marcel's voice cut through the room.

"Not really," Klaus didn't even bother to look up, his eyes remaining on the notice and stoic as usual.

Marcel stepped into the room anyway, making Klaus lift his gaze, irritation flashing across his features.

Marcel got straight to the point of his little visit, "Hope went to see Maya today."

Klaus's gaze immediately shifted to something darker, dropping the bank note onto his desk and his jaw tightened, "She knows she's forbidden."

Marcel nodded, crossing his arms as he stepped forward, "Which is why I thought you might like to know." Marcel reached into his pocket, retrieving his phone, "Strange thing is..." he turned his phone toward Klaus, handing it over to him for him to view the screen, "Josie drove her."

On the screen was a photo, a blurry image of Hope and Josie getting out of Josie's car near the Machado residence.

Klaus's eyes narrowed as he studied the image, leaning back in his chair, "What the bloody hell is this girl up to?"

Marcel refilled Klaus's glass of bourbon, thinking he may need it, "You really don't trust her, do you?"

"I don't trust anyone," Klaus said sharply, his eyes going back to the image, "And clearly, someone has to step in before my daughter makes another mistake."

As Marcel took his phone back, he looked as if he wanted to add something else, but bit his tongue instead, nodding slowly before leaning off the desk and making his way toward the door, leaving Klaus alone with his thoughts.

Marcel shut the door to the study behind him, and when he turned around, he was met with the sight of the blonde original vampire, arms crossed as she leaned against the wall outside.

Marcel pauses in his tracks, and greets her, "Rebekah." His voice is steady, even though he can sense the tension in the air. She's clearly not happy.

She scoffed at him, "So, does Hope know you were tailing her, or is that another secret for your little paranoid club with my brother?"

Marcel's eyes narrowed, but Rebekah didn't let up.

She tilted her head, asking sarcastically, "Is there a secret handshake as well?"

Marcel exhaled sharply, his frustration very clear. He's grown used to her biting remarks over the centuries, but they still got under his skin more than he cared to admit.

"Believe it or not, Rebekah, I am trying to protect her," he told her.

Rebekah pushed off the wall and took a step closer, her arms still crossed against her chest, "Protect her? By reporting every move she makes to Klaus?"

Marcel chose his words carefully, "They've both made mistakes—"

"We all have, Marcel," she interrupted him. Her gaze fell, and her tone suddenly came out much colder, "But as always, your loyalty stands singularly with my brother."

Marcel's jaw clenched at Rebekah's words, but he had no reply.

Rebekah's eyes lingered on him for a moment longer, her lips pressed into a thin line before she turned on her heel and made her way down the hall.

Hope stepped onto the porch at Mikaelson Manor, seeing Jed sitting on one of the loungers, a drink in hand. When he heard her footsteps approaching, his head tilted slightly in her direction, a smirk forming on his lips.

"Where have you been?" He asked with a teasing tone.

Hope poured herself a drink from the bar before sitting on the lounger beside him, answering casually, "I walked Josie back to her place."

Jed's smirk deepened. He sat up, leaning his elbows on his knees as he studied his friend for a moment. "Hmm," he hummed, "Did you tuck her into bed too?" He lifted his eyebrows twice suggestively, "How was she?"

Hope rolled her eyes and shook her head lightheartedly, just taking a decent swig of her drink.

He laughed at her reaction in disbelief and amusement, "Wow, you really haven't fucked her yet?"

Hope shot him an exasperated look, "Dude, really?"

Jed just laughed again, shaking his head at her, "Who are you, and what have you done with my best friend?"

"You're such an ass," is all she replied, finishing off her drink.

Jed shrugged, messing with her some more, "Just don't start going soft, alright?"

Hope narrowed her eyes at him, "I'm not going soft."

Jed leaned back in his seat again, "All I'm saying is, you're gonna get tired of this girl in no time and be back on the hunt next week. So just fuck her, and get it out of your system already, because you and I have a summer of fun to get to."

Suddenly, the sound of a throat being cleared broke up the conversation, making them both look over toward the sound. Jed's eyes widened at the sight of Klaus standing nearby, but the man didn't comment on what he had heard. His expression however was hardened as he looked to his daughter, "Hope, a word?"

Though it was a request, it sounded more like a demand, so Jed stood up from his seat, somewhat nervously now. "Uh, I'll go see if your party planner needs a hand cleaning up," he was already starting to make his escape when Klaus's voice stopped him again, making his heart drop for a moment.

"Her name is Penelope, in case you were wondering," he said instead, still not looking in his direction.

Jed chuckled nervously, nodding his head at the information before scurrying off.

Hope had already started walking over to the bar again, pouring herself another drink when Klaus stepped behind her, "You broke our agreement. You went to see that girl, Maya."

Hope stopped what she was doing when she heard that, setting her glass down and turning to face her father, "How do you know that?"

Klaus didn't answer her question as he replied, "Well, at least you're not denying it."

Hope felt no need to lie about it, "I went to apologize, dad. Something I should've done a long time ago. It was the right thing to do. You should try it sometime." She sighed before adding, "And for what it's worth, she wouldn't even see me. At least now I can try to move on."

"With Josie Parker?" Klaus asked, his disapproval evident in his expression.

Hope scoffed, turning around and finally pouring herself that drink, "You got a problem with her, too?"

Klaus suddenly sounded more defensive, "That girl paid obscenely for that property right next door, Hope."

Hope shrugged, "It's got a great view. Plus, at least you know she's not a gold digger."

Klaus was practically steaming at her nonchalance, "The only thing we know for sure is that you're a bad judge of women."

Hope shook her head at that. "No one's ever gonna be good enough for you, are they?" her tone was quiet but biting.

Klaus's jaw tightened, watching as she turned her back on him and made her way inside the house. And he knew then, that this was going to be yet another long summer.
