Needing Attention

Orm wasn't the biggest fan of parties. She could handle them for a while, but tonight felt different. The music was loud, the room was packed with people, and she was sitting on the couch, pretending to pay attention to whatever her friends were talking about. It wasn't that she didn't like her friends-it was just that all she wanted right now was to be with Lingling.

Across the room, Lingling was laughing with a group of her own friends, looking radiant as always. She was in the middle of some animated conversation, her eyes sparkling, her laughter infectious. Orm watched her from a distance, her heart doing that familiar flip it always did when she looked at her wife. But as much as Orm loved seeing Lingling happy and carefree, she couldn't help but feel a little left out.

Orm sighed, tuning out the conversation happening around her as she glanced back over at Lingling. She had been glued to her friends for most of the night, and while Orm had tried to be patient, she was getting tired of sharing her. Orm didn't like to admit it, but she could be a bit possessive. She just wanted Lingling's attention, even for a moment, but every time she glanced over, Lingling was too wrapped up in laughter and chatter to notice.

"Earth to Orm," Kwang's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

Orm blinked, realizing she hadn't been listening. "What?"

"You've been zoning out for like the last ten minutes," Kwang teased, leaning back on the couch. "What's up? Not in a party mood?"

Orm shrugged, trying to act nonchalant. "It's fine. I'm just... tired, I guess."

Kwang raised an eyebrow, following Orm's gaze across the room. "Or maybe you're missing someone?"

Orm scowled, though she couldn't hide the faint blush creeping up her neck. "I'm not missing anyone. I'm just bored."

Kwang chuckled, shaking his head. "Sure. You've been staring at Lingling for the past half hour."

Orm crossed her arms, sinking further into the couch. "She's been talking to her friends all night."

"And you're jealous," Kwang teased, poking Orm's arm.

Orm huffed, clearly not in the mood for teasing. "I'm not jealous. I just... I want her attention. Is that so bad?"

Kwang laughed again, nudging her playfully. "Well, if you want her attention, go get it. She's your wife, after all."

Orm glanced back at Lingling, who was still engrossed in her conversation, laughing at something one of her friends had said. She chewed her bottom lip, debating whether or not to interrupt. She didn't want to seem clingy, but at the same time, she was tired of sitting here, feeling like an outsider.

Finally, she made up her mind. Orm stood up, straightening her jacket and ignoring the knowing grin on Kwang's face. She crossed the room, weaving through the crowd until she was right behind Lingling. Lingling didn't notice her at first, too busy laughing with her friends, but Orm gently placed a hand on her shoulder, making her turn around.

"Hey," Orm said, trying to keep her voice casual, though there was a clear hint of impatience behind it.

Lingling's face lit up when she saw Orm. "Hey, teerak!" she said, her eyes bright with warmth. She reached out, taking Orm's hand and pulling her closer. "I was just telling them about that trip we took last year. Remember? The one where we got lost trying to find that hiking trail?"

Orm forced a small smile, though her heart wasn't in it. "Yeah, I remember."

One of Lingling's friends chimed in, clearly enjoying the conversation. "That sounds hilarious! You guys must've had quite the adventure."
