Jake rolled his eyes, but he couldn't help the small smile tugging at his lips. "Do I get a say in this, or is this one of those things you're just informing me about?"
Minjae grinned mischievously. "Consider it a... strong suggestion." She wriggled her eyebrows. "But if you're good, I might treat you to something."
He snorted, crossing his arms. "Please. I could out-eat you any day."
"Oh, is that a challenge?" she asked, eyes gleaming with excitement.
The bus ride continued with Minjae pointing out random landmarks and coming up with exaggerated stories about each one, all of which made Jake laugh more than he'd admit.
When the bus finally rolled into Seoul, the skyline stretching out before them, he felt a surge of excitement—maybe more than he'd anticipated.
Once they arrived at their lodging, the teachers assigned them their rooms, "Please do not leave your rooms. It's quite late, and I need you all to head in for the night. You can go out tomorrow morning after breakfast."
When they arrived at their room, Jake tossed his bag onto the floor and headed for the bed—only to stop short, a small frown settling on his face. Minjae came up beside him, and as soon as she saw what he was staring at, she blinked, a look of confusion crossing her own face.
"Uh," she said, glancing from Jake to the single bed sitting innocently in the middle of the room. "Wasn't there supposed to be... you know, two of these?"
Jake sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah. They said double occupancy, so... I assumed that meant two beds."
She huffed, shaking her head in disbelief. "How could they mix this up?"
He shrugged, turning to give her a smirk. "I mean, if you're scared, I could always sleep on the floor."
Minjae rolled her eyes, nudging him lightly. "Scared? Please. I'm worried about you kicking my ass in your sleep, honestly."
Jake chuckled, the corner of his mouth quirking up. "Right. Or you talking in your sleep all night and keeping me up."
They exchanged a look, each pretending not to care about the arrangement, but there was a faint tension in the air neither of them wanted to acknowledge. The awkwardness of the situation seemed to settle in as they both realized they were actually going to have to share.
"Fine," she said finally, throwing her bag onto one side of the bed. "We'll just deal with it."
Jake shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, no big deal."
Minjae plopped onto her side of the bed with a dramatic sigh, crossing her arms behind her head. "You better not hog the blanket, Jake. Or snore."
Jake arched an eyebrow and flopped down on the other side of the bed. "First of all, I don't snore. Second, I think we both know you're the blanket thief here."
Minjae's face turned pink, and she grabbed a pillow, whacking him lightly on the arm. "I do not steal blankets!"
Jake laughed lightly, shielding himself with his arm. "Uh-huh. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Minjae."
Her face flushed again as she mumbled "I'll murder you", and before she could throw another pillow at him, the sound of someone knocking on their door startled them both. They exchanged a glance.
"Who's that?" Minjae asked, getting up.
"No idea," Jake said, following her with curiosity as she opened the door.
Standing there was one of their classmates, Jungwon, looking sheepish. "Hey, uh, sorry to bother you guys, but the teachers are making rounds and told me to check if you were settled in."
