(Tw: suicide)
(Sophie Pov)
Battle raged on around Sophie. Elysian was siding with Giselle, and it was making their lives a living hell.
Her abilities had turned off. Everyone's had. Now, all they had left to use was their wit, strength, strategy, and skills.
She wasn't sure how much longer she could do this. It had been hours of fighting without even a moment of rest. She was so very exhausted. Injured. And mentally drained.
But when she heard footsteps behind her once more, her will to live pushed her forward. She stumbled over a tree root, falling to the ground. Gethen approached upon her. She scrambled back, unable to stand.
She was ready to try and slash when a noise off in the distance caught both of their eyes.
Both were intrigued with what was happening. They put aside the fact they were about to try and kill each other to pay attention.
Keefe was walking up to his mother. Sophie noticed the way he gripped a dagger in his hand with determination. He set his jaw.
He was a few feet in front of her when he stopped.
He adjusted the hold on his weapon. "I'm sick of you trying to control me!" He yelled. "I'm going to finish this right here, right now."
Lady Giselle scoffed. "You really think you're going to hurt me." She stepped closer to her son. "You can't do it. You're weak!"
Sophie saw his chin wobble. A tear fell down his face. If he killed her, his sanity may never recover.
But he didn't go for his mom.
"No," his voice was black ice. "Killing you won't get rid of the issue. It's me that's vital to your plan. Me."
Sophie's heart dropped when she realized what he was planning. The battle stopped. All of the fighting and chaos paused, and everyone turned their attention to Keefe and Lady Giselle. The wind stopped blowing, and the rustling trees followed. The world seemed to stop spinning.
Sophie's voice fell on deaf hears when she screamed his name. The look of pride on Lady Giselle's face turned to horror at her son's actions. Not because of love, but because she'd never accomplish what she had set out to do.
Keefe lifted the dagger and turned the blade toward himself. Sophie bolted up to stop him.
Every last plee from his friends was in vain. The dagger peirced into the flesh of his chest. Blood poured from the wound.
The color in Giselle's face drained. Keefe looked up at his mother before glancing down at his wound. He placed a hand over the gash, trying to catch the escaping red.
Adrenaline finally ran out. His eyes rolled into the back of his head, and he promptly collapsed.
Sophie shoved Giselle out of the way and knelt down beside Keefe. His breathing was heavy. Blood was pooling in his mouth while he moaned in agony.
"Keefe!" She screamed. "Why would you do this?"
He coughed, spraying red. "I'm sorry. It was the only way to ensure she didn't get what she wanted out of me." His voice was an awful gurgle. "I'm so sorry," he sobbed, "please don't hate me.
"I can't hate you," she promised him, as easier it would be if she did.
She tore a piece of her cape off and used it to try and plug the hole. He cried out.
"Elwin?" He asked.
Sophie wished Elwin could help. But she knew it was too late.
She just gently cradled his body close to hers. His skin felt cold already.
"I love you, Sophie," he murmured. His voice already sounded like he was far away.
"I love you too, Keefe. So much." She brushed the tears from his face before burying her face in his neck.
Soon, his chest stopped rising and falling with struggled breath. Sophie squeezed his body tighter and started to sob.
