After Elena transitioned into a vampire, she has been feeling weird. She didn't know what it was, but it felt like when she was getting her memories back after she was compelled by Damon. She walks downstairs to the living room and she sees memories of her, her parents, and her brother.
Miranda and Grayson: Happy Birthday Elena! Miranda and Grayson bring presents to Elena. Jeremy sits next to her with a present in his hand. Present Elena starts thinking and realizes that this is the last birthday that she shared with her parents.
Jeremy: Come on Elena. Open your presents.
Elena: Alright, I am. Elena opens her presents. She got clothes, jewelry, and a new notebook diary.
Elena: Wow thank you guys.
Miranda: Wait! There's one more present for you, but you have to close your eyes. Elena closed her eyes as Miranda got the present. She comes back into the room.
Miranda: Okay! Open your eyes. Elena opens her eyes and gasps as she sees a drawing of herself.

Elena: Wow! This is beautiful. Mom who did this?
Miranda: A patient of mine a few years ago. She said to give it to you when you look like that. Grayson looked at his wife confused.
Grayson: Honey, can I talk to you in the kitchen?
Miranda: Okay. Grayson and Miranda go into the kitchen. Present Elena follows her parents.
Grayson: What patient gave you that drawing? Miranda tries to think of who gave her the drawing, but she is coming up blank.
Miranda: I-I don't remember.
Grayson: Were you compelled? Have you been taking vervain?
Miranda: Yes, I've been taking vervain for years. Since we were first married. Elena was shocked that her parents knew about compulsion and vervain.
Grayson: Then how did this happen?
Jeremy: Mom! Dad! Can we cut the cake!
Miranda: Sure! Miranda gets the cake, lights the candles, and she and Grayson go into the living room. They soon fade away leaving Elena wondering more about it. Elena goes upstairs to the closet that had her mom's boxes in it. Her mother was a psychiatrist at the Mystic Falls Psychiatric Hospital treating patients with mental health problems. She found the box that she was looking for and searched through the files until one name caught her attention: L. Stiles. She opened the file and read it.
