Previously...
Suddenly, I stood. Foster's breathing was becoming hitched. Though that wasn't the main reason I had gotten onto my feet: the Leaping Crystal was glowing an insanely bright gold.
Keefe's POV:
I worriedly took Sophie's hand, sending a few mental breezes.
"Foster?" I asked, nervously, looking at the glowing purple leaping crystal at her wrist.
After a while, I regretted it terribly: the golden light it was producing instantly blinded my eyes.
Ouch.
I would have closed my poor, poor eyelids if Foster's line wasn't on the line. But I couldn't let Foster's wrist keep glowing like that. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I would let that happen?
I reluctantly opened my eyes, rubbing the daze out of them.
I brushed away the millions of questions that were appearing in my mind.
Why was the Leaping Crystal glowing without being held up to the light?
Why was the Leaping Crystal purple?
But more importantly...
What was going to happen to my Foster?
Knowing I wouldn't have an answer to all of those, I decided to focus on Sophie. I looked up at her closed eyes. Her chest was still going up and down faster than Bullhorn when he was agitated, as if she was having a heart attack.
One thing was sure: she was scared.
Even through the brightness, I looked down at Sophie's wrist.
A second thing was sure: I had to take that Leaping Crystal off of her arm if I didn't want anything bad to happen.
I turned to the red-head next to me. To be honest, I had almost forgotten she was standing there.
"Aurelia, take that Leaping Crystal off her wrist. I'm going to try and calm her so that she doesn't thrash," I ordered.
Aurelia simply nodded before taking Sophie's hand lightly as I took the other. I sent multiple calming breezes, and they seemed to have effect: Foster's breathing became less rapid, becoming still.
I looked at the red-haired girl, who was desperately trying to detach the glowing bracelet. I sighed when I saw she was failing miserably.
"I can't!" she cried, throwing her arms in the air.
I gritted my teeth in frustration.
"Elwin, go get some scissors," I yelled. The dark-haired Elf scrambled off to his office, slamming the door open.
I took Aurelia's place and fought with the loop, but it was too resistant. It was as if it was made of metal.
I sighed hopelessly: This was never going to work.
"I've got them!" Elwin ran over, and pressed the sharp ends to the string. It only resulted in making the scissors break.
"What do we do?" Aurelia asked, to no one in particular.
"I'll... try to go see Forklenator," I ran out of the Healing Center, almost tripping a few times. Wow, Foster must have really been rubbing off me. Which was why I couldn't let anything happen to her.
"Leto!" I yelled at the seated man in front of his desk. "Come on, in the Healing Center!"
I waited for him to scramble over before taking off out of the door.
But when we arrived at our destination, I hadn't expected what I would find there.
The bed Foster had once been lying in was...
Empty.
She was gone.
And it was all my fault.
