Dad- I finally closed the case files for the night. I had this feeling that something wasn't right. Lissy had been unusually quiet all evening after he told her she couldn't go to the party her friends were planning and their fight.I turned off all the lights downstairs and locked all the doors. Deciding to check on her, I gently knocked on her door. "Lissy?
No answer.
Dad- "Lissy?" I repeated, opening the door to find her bed empty, her window wide open. My heart dropped, anger and worry flooding my system in equal measure.
I pulled out my phone and called her. Straight to voicemail. I called again, and still nothing. My hands clenched into fists as I stared at the empty bed.
I didn't need to guess where she'd gone. Grabbing my keys, I called Danny on the way. "I need you to track down where this party is," he said. "Lissy's not home."
Within minutes, Danny texted me the address. It wasn't far-a large house on the beach and the pounding bass from Madison's house was deafening as i2 parked the truck, his frustration simmering just beneath the surface. He had told Lissy no-firmly, clearly, and without room for argument. Yet here he was, walking into a house full of teenagers because she had decided his rules didn't matter.
- Madison Home -
Inside, the house was chaotic-kids laughing, shouting, and crowding every corner. My sharp eyes scanned the room until they landed on her. Lissy was in the kitchen, laughing loudly with her friends as if she didn't have a care in the world. Mypatience snapped.
Dad- "Lissy!"
Lissy- My head whipped around at the sound of his voice, my expression shifting from shock to anger as my friends quickly stepped away. What are you doing here?" I hissed, my voice sharp and full of indignation.
Dad- "You know why I'm here. Get your things. We're leaving."
Lissy- "No! I'm not going anywhere! You can't just barge in here and ruin everything!"
Dad- "Ruin everything? You ruined everything when you snuck out and lied to me. Get your things. Now."
Lissy- "No! I didn't do anything wrong! You're acting crazy, Dad! Just leave me alone for once!"
Dad- Stepping closer, my voice calm but icy) "Lissy, I am not here to argue with you. You're leaving this house one way or another. I'm giving you two choices: walk out on your own, or I will drag you out. Your call."
Lissy- My defiance only grew, fueled by the murmurs from the crowd watching. I crossed my arms, glaring at him. "I'm not going with you! I'm not a little kid, and you can't make me! Just go home!"
Dad- I stepped closer, his jaw tight and his voice dropping to a cold, steady tone. Dad: "You don't want to push me right now. Get up and walk out, or I will drag you out myself."
Lissy: "I'm not going! I don't care what you say!" she snapped, her glare fiery. "You don't control me!"
Dad- I ook a slow, deep breath, his patience already on its last thread. Dad: "Lissy, this is your last chance. Walk out on your own, or I will make you. Is that what you want?"
Lissy: "Go ahead! Drag me out if you're so desperate to embarrass me! Everyone already thinks you're crazy anyway!"
The whispers from the crowd only made the moment more charged, but Dad's icy calm didn't waver.
Dad- I took another step closer, my boice low and firm. "Don't say I didn't warn you." Without another word, I grabbed her arm-not roughly, but firmly and with clear intent. Lissy immediately began to struggle, her protests growing louder.
