6 MONTHS LATER…
The night was a deep, suffocating black, the kind that felt as though it could swallow a person whole. The rain came in sheets now, relentless and cold, battering the windshield with a ferocity that drowned out the world outside. My grip on the steering wheel tightened, knuckles pale against the leather, eyes straining to pierce through the blur of water and darkness.
My car was the only thing moving on this desolate stretch of highway. The road stretched on before me, the headlights cutting through the murky veil, but all I could see were endless rows of trees on either side, their branches twisted and contorted, like skeletal fingers reaching for me.
It was strange how the world felt so empty, so silent, despite the howling wind and the heavy rain. I could barely make out the outline of the road ahead as the darkness pressed in from all sides. Even the sound of the rain hitting the roof and windows felt muffled, as if it were coming from far away. The only thing keeping me grounded was the hum of the engine and the occasional flick of the wipers sweeping across the glass.
The highway seemed unsettling at night. The winding road, the dense forest on both sides, it felt like the kind of place where time stood still, where anything could happen without anyone knowing.
My mind wandered back to the conversation I had with Taehyung earlier this evening. Taehyung had insisted on letting me leave early, to get the cabin ready. "I’ll catch up with you tomorrow," he’d said with a grin. Don’t know why ?
Generally, he wouldn’t let me out of sight for a second.
I had agreed, but now, as I drove alone through this eerie stretch of road, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
The rain had started off as a gentle drizzle, but now it pounded the car with a fury, making the windshield wipers fight to keep up. The further I drove, the thicker the fog seemed to get, swirling around me like a living thing, obscuring the edges of the road and making the trees seem like looming spectres in the distance. It was a night so dark that even the moon and stars seemed to have abandoned. The oppressive sky stretched endlessly above, a blanket of black clouds that hung like a shroud over everything.
I glanced at the dashboard—1:45 a.m. Another hour to go before I reached the cabin. A whole hour of this... solitude. Of this eerie silence. The thought of being alone in that cabin was no comfort.
The idea was Jimin’s. He said he would take care of Theo for the weekend. And Taehyung seemed to hang onto this trip. At first, we both decided to leave together tonight. But suddenly he got a surge of work this evening. I insisted on staying with him and we both would leave for the cabin tomorrow morning. But Taehyung was reluctant. He kind of forced me to leave earlier. I also thought I could tidy up the cabin a bit.
