The walk to the registration office was quiet for a while, the sound of their footsteps echoing faintly against the city streets. Maya's mind buzzed with questions as she glanced sideways at Shota. Her wings fluttered softly behind her, drawing the occasional curious look from passersby, but she was too lost in thought to notice.
Breaking the silence, she finally spoke up. "So, uh... when I sign the papers, do I... use your last name?" she asked hesitantly, her cheeks already starting to flush. "I mean, since we're married and all... I'm not really sure how this works."
Shota didn't answer right away, his pace steady as he considered her words. After a moment, he glanced at her, the faintest hint of a smirk playing at the corner of his lips. "Yes," he said simply. "Legally, you've got my last name now."
Maya's eyes widened slightly, her wings giving an involuntary flutter that only made her blush deepen. "Oh," she murmured, staring down at her feet. "So I'm... Mrs. Aizawa?"
Shota's smirk widened slightly as he watched her reaction. "That's how it works," he said, his tone casual. "It wouldn't be so bad seeing a 'Mrs. Aizawa' on a piece of paper, though."
Maya's cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red, and her lips pressed into a small, frustrated pout. Her wings fluttered again, betraying her flustered state.
"Stop it," she muttered, shooting him a glare that lacked any real heat.
"Stop what?" Shota asked innocently, though the amusement in his voice was clear.
"Making me embarrassed!" Maya snapped, her pout deepening as she crossed her arms over her chest. "You're enjoying this way too much."
Shota chuckled softly, his smirk never fading. "Maybe a little," he admitted. "But you make it easy."
Maya groaned, her wings giving another irritated twitch. "I can't believe I have to write your name down," she muttered under her breath, though the corners of her mouth twitched as if she was fighting back a smile.
Shota raised an eyebrow at her. "You'd prefer to stick with Kayama?" he asked, his tone even but teasing. "I thought you liked tradition."
"Tradition is overrated," Maya shot back, though her blush betrayed her bravado. "But fine. I'll do it."
"Good," Shota said, his smirk softening into something more neutral as they approached the registration office. "This is just paperwork. The real work starts after."
Maya sighed, running a hand through her pink hair as she glanced at the building ahead. "Yeah, yeah. Paperwork first, then figuring out how to not turn my room into a jungle."
"Exactly," Shota replied, holding the door open for her. "Let's get this done."
Maya stepped inside, her nerves settling slightly as she took a deep breath. Still, the thought of signing her new name sent another flutter through her wings—a feeling she wasn't quite sure how to handle yet.
The registration office was busy, a steady hum of chatter filling the air. People moved about, waiting in lines or talking quietly with staff. But as Maya and Shota entered, the room seemed to pause. Eyes turned toward them, more specifically toward Maya's glowing pink wings. The soft shimmer of her feathers seemed to draw attention like moths to a flame.
Unaware of the stares, Maya stood beside Shota, lost in her own thoughts about paperwork, her quirk, and the growing weight of everything new in her life. Shota, on the other hand, was more aware of their surroundings. His sharp eyes scanned the room, taking in the curious glances, the murmurs, and—
