Author's POV
"What are you trying to do Geetha?"
Mugil approached and stood next to his wife. She tilted her head slightly, giving him a brief glance before returning her attention to the stage, where her daughter and son-in-law were posing for photos. Bairavan's discomfort was plainly evident at the moment.
"What am I doing?"
Mugil scoffed at Geetha's response
"Oh, you want to hear it from me? Fine then. Why are you trying to punish my daughter by making Bairavan uncomfortable and insecure? What do you gain by spoiling Umaiyazh's life?" Mugilan asked Geetha.
"Your daughter huh?"
Geetha raised her brows...Mugil took a deep breath
"Yes, when you forget that she is your daughter as well and are hell-bent on making her regret her decision, just to prove that you are right and she is wrong... You want her marriage to fail, and this reception party is just the start. You've already planted seeds of insecurity in Bairavan and ignorance in Umaiyazh... Why are you prioritizing your ego over your daughter's happiness?"
Mugil asked Geetha glared at him
"Happiness.......She won't be happy with him and I know that"
"How are you sure???"
"Are you happy with me?"
Geetha asked and Mugil didn't answer that question she chuckled
"Years have passed, and I still feel like an outsider in your family because you never accepted mine. This cycle will continue, which is why I was against this marriage. You insisted on it, and now you fear that my concerns might become reality in Umaiyazh's case"
Geetha expressed Mugil gulped and looked at his wife
"I couldn't accept your family because they never sought just love and concern; they were after money and aimed to break my family, which I cannot stand. They instilled the same mentality in you. You never made an effort to connect with my family, regardless of how much they tried to include you. You even attempted to instil the same vengeance in Shiva and Umaiyazh, but failed miserably. Your family's actions and intentions were transparent to my children, and they weren't deceived by their feigned affection and schemes. You once loved me, but when you learned of my family's status, you retreated because of your insecurities and didn't stand up to your family for our love. It was I who defended our love and am still striving to preserve it, which you've been trying to destroy for years just to prove your point that we can't be together. I'm weary of it; I've realized you will never change,"
Mugil let it out, and Geetha looked at him and chuckled.
"So you waited until our daughter got married to say that you want to leave me? Wow," Geetha scoffed.
"It wasn't me who wanted to leave... Yet, you always make me regret loving you. Despite knowing how toxic our life has become, I can't stop loving you. Maybe my love is too strong, a feeling you've never appreciated or realized. I've lost hope that you'll ever try to understand me beyond your ego... I apologize. I thought you loved me, and that's why I married you," Mugil said to Geetha before leaving the place.
Geetha glanced back at her departing husband, shaking her head as she always did to dismiss his words, and then proceeded to the stage to speak with her daughter.
"That's enough of photos Now you leave "
She said to the photographers and looked at her daughter ignoring Bairavan she spoke
"Umaiyazh, go have your dinner, and then we'll head to our house. The arrangements for the first night are already made... you and your husband can stay there for a week before moving to his place. Does he have a house, or will you need to stay with him in the police quarters? If you want, I can ask your brother to buy you a new house as a wedding gift. You should also ask your husband which area he would prefer for the house," Geetha told Umaiyazh, giving a mocking smirk to Bairavan.
Now that the guests had departed and only family members were left in the function hall, Bairavan clenched his fists to restrain himself and spoke to Umiayazh in a measured tone.
"I am leaving now... As I mentioned to you yesterday, there is an important case, so I have to head to the station now."
He struggled to control his emotions, trying not to lash out. He was handling an important case and had already informed Umaiyazh that he would be occupied until its conclusion, requesting her to postpone their marriage registration. However, she insisted, buoyed by her mother's approval and the astrologer's auspicious date declaration. For her sake, he consented and took a half-day leave. As he prepared to depart in the afternoon, Geethanjali mentioned the reception, and Umaiyazh implored him to agree to that as well, urging him to take the entire day off. Now, with constant calls from his team, he felt the urge to leave, and Geetha's insistence only fueled his frustration. Umaiyazh, elated by her mother's involvement in the marriage, was reluctant to disappoint her, and his apparent irritation only aggravated her.
"What do you mean, Bairava? We've just got married; can't you spare a whole day to savor the moment? Why do you want to leave? You know how marriage rituals are, and your senior should understand not to assign you work but to grant you leave. If you want, I can have Anna speak with the commissioner and transfer the case to someone else, so you're free for our post-marriage rituals. Wait here; Periyanna is around, I'll talk to him," Umaiyal said, gripping his wrist, poised to call Agathiyan.
Bairavan held her wrist to stop her and took a deep breath
"Umai Try to understand I have to leave now........."
"You try to understand Bairava you heard amma right we are going to Revathi Illam now that's final do you hear me!!!!"
Umaiyazh spoke sternly, and that was the final straw for Bairavan. He withdrew his hands from her grasp, and without answering or acknowledging her calls, he left the function hall, leaving her behind.
