Key of Souls: Twisted Wonderland

3rd POV

Dawn slowly opened her eyes as she regained consciousness. As she moaned, she felt something was standing on her stomach and saw that it was Grim. "Ah, you're awake!", he said with a relieved smile.

"Huh?", Dawn went as she slowly sat up. As she did, a sudden headache struck her head, and she winced in pain. "Kyu, Kyu!", Perry squeaked as he jumped on her shoulder and started nuzzling her cheek; she noticed that her head was wrapped in bandages, and she was lying in bed. Once her headache settled, she asked, "Where am I?"

It was then that a cup of water was right in front of her. Dawn turned to see that Ace was giving her the cup, with Deuce beside him. "You passed out in the second half of our match after Grim nailed you in the head with the disc. Do you remember?" he explained to her as Dawn took the cup and drank the water. She managed to look around and noticed that she was currently in the school's infirmary.

"I was trying to score with a super long shot~.", Grim said with a smile. After that sentence, Perry jumped off Dawn's shoulder and started pulling on Grim's ears and tail, and he squeaked angrily as he ruffled up his fur while Grim tried to fight him off. "Ow, ow, ow! Knock it off! I said I'm sorry already!", he complained; Dawn couldn't help but giggle at their silly antics.

Jack soon approached the two, pulled Grim and Perry apart and gave Grim a firm stare. "Newbies shouldn't try stuff like that.", he said. Once they both settled down, Grim was dropped on the bed, while Perry went to Deuce's shoulder. "Anyway, I'm glad you woke up. We were really worried about where you got hit since you didn't wake up for so long.", said Deuce as he stoked Perry's head, feeling relieved that she was okay.

"You've been asleep for so long that the closing ceremony is long over, and they've already started dismantling the venue.", Ace told her. It was then that Dawn noticed that it was nighttime as she looked out the window; she was shocked as she realized that she had been out cold for such a long time and disappointed that she missed out on the rest of the Magical Shift Tournament. As she realized this, Dawn asked, "So how did Savanaclaw do? Which dorm won?"

"The champion is Diasomnia.", a voice suddenly said. Everyone turned to where the voice was coming from. Right next to Dawn was Leona Kingscholar, who was lying carefree on the bed next to her as Ruggie was next to his Dorm Leader; the two of them looked like they went through the wringer as they were covered in bandages. "Uughh. In the end, we didn't stand a chance. The other dorms were all a mess, so this year's tournament was a shit show.", said Ruggie as he flopped back down on his bed.

"Leona, Ruggie! Are you finally awake?", Jack asked his seniors.

"Tch... I can't believe I'm using an infirmary bed for something other than a nap.", Leona grumbled. Based on the number of bandages, Dawn assumed that Leona must've taken quite a few hits from the opposing teams during the tournament. "You reap what you sow.", was all the girl could say. Leona gave her a nasty look but decided not to say anything to her, but he was glad to see that she seemed okay now. As Ruggie looked around, he noticed that the only ones in the infirmary right now were him, Leona, the first-years, and that plush doll. "The fact that not a single person from Diasomnia is in here really ticks me off.", he said, feeling irritated.

"I heard the rumours, but Diasomnia's dorm head is stupid good.", said Ace.

"Yeah... It was something else. I wish you could've seen it, Dawn.", Deuce said.

Hearing this made Dawn sigh in disappointment because she really wanted to see more of the tournament and said, "Guess I'll have to wait until next time... if I get a next time..."

"I totally get why no one can imagine beating him.", Ace said, feeling defeated.

"Hmph. No one can win if they give up before they even try. I'm definitely going to beat Diasomnia next year. Without using underhanded tactics, only my own strength.", Jack declared, vowing to train even harder for when the next time the tournament approaches, he's going to show his true strength and win without any cheating whatsoever.
