A month after Aragorn and Arwen's wedding, Legolas and I decide to travel back to Mirkwood, so that he may see his father and spend some time at home after so much of it away.

Nerves flow through me as our horses, side by side, gallop through the forest surrounding the Woodland Realm. I glance to Legolas, if his father does not approve of our love...

Sentinels meet us along the path, providing safe passage to us as we journey on. I watch Legolas greet his friends, telling them of our adventures. He turns his head to smile at me, and I try to smile back, though he notes my hesitation.

When we dismount outside, a steward greets Legolas at the gate with a deep bow.

"Prince Legolas," He looks to me then, slightly startled. "And...Lady Amariel."

Legolas nods to him, "My father, I wish to speak with him."

"Perhaps you would like to—"

"Immediately." Legolas cuts him off.

"Legolas," I say to him quietly, his head turning to me. "Let me change first."

"No." He smiles softly at me in my riding attire. "You are perfect as you are."

My face softens and I sigh, but he takes my hand before I can say anything further, and turns to the steward, who nods and leads the way into Thranduil's hall.

I keep my eyes ahead of me, not turning to look at the magnificent halls we walk through, built within and through the trees of the forest itself.

When we walk into the large throne room, Thranduil stood beside it with his back to us, the steward bows deeply.

"Prince Legolas, and Lady Amariel of Rivendell, my King." He stands, stepping back so we can walk forward.

Legolas does not let go of my hand as we bow to him. "My King." He calls out to him. "Father."

"So, it is done then?" Thranduil asks in his drawling voice, still not facing us. "The Ring is destroyed, and the heir of Elendil sits on the throne of Men."

Legolas nods. "Yes."

Slowly, Thranduil turns to us, his hair pale and long just like Legolas', and his crown sitting atop his head, the spikes rising high.

"And now," he looks to me, his sharp eyes piercing through me, "you come once more to proclaim your love for the Lady of Swords."

I take a sharp breath and glance to Legolas, who keeps his eyes on his father. His jaw tenses.

"My love is proclaimed." Legolas says to him. "I come to ask your acceptance of it."

"And if I do not accept?" Thranduil asks slowly, no emotion showing on his face.

Legolas raises his head high. "Then we will sail West. We will go to the Undying Lands and live in peace." I turn my head to him in shock. "As I know you have no intention of doing so...you would not follow us."

"You would run away?" My father steps out of the shadows to the side of the hall and a sound of shock escapes me at the sight of him here.

"Ada?" I frown, stepping forward. "What—what are you doing here?"

Legolas does not look as confused as I do, rather...relieved.

Father smiles at me. "I came to speak to Thranduil ahead of your arrival." He looks to the king. "I came to inform him how...in love the two of you are." He looks back to me and smiles faintly. "And that it is not within our power to stand in your way." He turns his gaze to Legolas then, sharper now. "Yet now I hear you would take my daughter and run."
