TW: Violence
On his way back to Yunmeng, the only thing on Wei Wuxian's mind was the Second Young Master of Gusu. He was not only disgustingly gorgeous, but he was also kind and caring. The closer Wei Wuxian saw Lotus Pier coming into his view, the more the feeling of dread and distress became apparent. Dreams never last forever, huh? Wei Wuxian thought.
He opened the doors to Lotus Pier and entered. Being back at this unpleasant place, Wei Wuxian's mood turned sour. It wasn't only because of the horrible memories and trauma that occurred here, but also the first thing he saw when he came in was none other than Yu Ziyuan. She stood in the middle of the room and most likely have been waiting for a while for him. Her expression was much more frightening and intimidating than usual. She rubbed constantly at the purple ring on her finger. Seeing her, Wei Wuxian was immediately covered in cold sweat, and his fingers started trembling. He was about to bow and greet her when suddenly she yanked his hair with brute force.
"What did I say to do when you arrived there?" Yu Ziyuan asked with fury.
Wei Wuxian panicked and stuttered as he answered, "Y-You said to c-come b-back im-immediately..."
"So, you did hear me? Yet you're still so bold and ignorant as to disobey me. It seems I still didn't beat you hard enough. Perhaps, I was being too nice?" Yu Ziyuan said with such savagery that it sent chills down Wei Wuxian's spine and made him shiver.
Hearing what she said, Wei Wuxian couldn't help but comment in his head. Too nice?! When had she ever been nice to me?
Wei Wuxian was in the middle of his thoughts when suddenly Yu Ziyuan threw him to the ground and kicked his knees, forcing him to kneel. Knowing what was coming next, Wei Wuxian went numb with fear. As he expected, Yu Ziyuan pushed on her ring, and a long, purple whip appeared in her hand. It crackled and sizzled with lightning, and there were even some sparks flying off it. Wei Wuxian stared at it with trembling eyes and knew right then and there that it was over. He was going to experience the worst kind of pain he has ever known.
Yu Ziyuan ordered her servants to hold him down and strip off his robes, only exposing his upper body. Wei Wuxian closed his eyes, preparing for his fate. Yu Ziyuan raised the whip high up in the air and swinged it down with the force of fifty soldiers in battle. Making its mark on Wei Wuxian's back, he gritted his teeth. The next second, he felt another hit and then another and then another. It didn't take long for the whip to be covered in blood and for Wei Wuxian's back to be leaking of it. Blood slowly dripped to the floor, forming large puddles of red all over. It already took a lot of effort to hold in the pain in the first strike. But after the third and fourth, Wei Wuxian screamed out in agony. It sounded like a dying, helpless animal. Yu Ziyuan didn't falter in the least and only swung down harder. Tears and sweat made their way down Wei Wuxian's face, rolling off his pale cheeks and joining the metallic, crimson puddle below. He kept screaming until his throat hurt, and his voice turned hoarse. This went on for a couple minutes, but to Wei Wuxian, it felt like hours.
When the last strike landed, Yu Ziyuan retreated Zidian, turning back into its original form. Wei Wuxian collapsed to the floor, and he felt dizzy and lightheaded, probably from blood loss. He could forget about standing up when he couldn't even sit up properly. It hurt to breath, and it hurt to move.
"That should teach you to never ever disobey my orders! If you do in the future..." Yu Ziyuan rubbed the ring on her finger. "You should know what's coming next."
Wei Wuxian couldn't care to reply for God's sake he couldn't even open his eyes fully. The last thing he heard was her retreating footsteps before he fully lost consciousness.
...
Wei Wuxian slowly opened his eyes which immediately burned. He only fully opened them when they finally adjusted to the glaring sunlight coming from the window nearby. He couldn't feel his body and could only turn his head slightly to look around. He was only able to see that the walls around him were white and that there was a neat, tidy desk nearby. He could also smell the scent of sandalwood that drifted through the air. Where am I? he wondered.
Just then he heard a door open and light footsteps entering. A second later, he saw a figure in white come and approach him. He had long, black hair that flowed down his back and a forehead ribbon tied around his head. The most distinct trait was the deep, golden eyes. Wei Wuxian instantly recognized this person. It's Lan Wangji! he thought.
Wei Wuxian was suddenly overcome with so much delight and joy that he tried to sit straight up but immediately groaned in pain. That's when he realized that his whole back was covered in bandages and was sore all over. He tried to stretch out his arms to feel them, but the effort only caused him more trouble and discomfort.
A low, quiet voice sounded in the air. "Don't move. You'll tear the open wounds."
Wei Wuxian turned to face Lan Wangji. "Where am I? When did you come?"
Lan Wangji looked down to retrieve something from his sleeves. He pulled out a sliver bell with a light purple tassel attached to its end. Seeing it, realizations flooded Wei Wuxian's mind.
When Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were chatting with each other, Lan Wangji saw the bell attached to Wei Wuxian's waist and asked about it. Wei Wuxian took it off and showed him, explaining its significance and meaning. When he was done with his description, he placed it on the table in front of Lan Wangji, so he could observe it closer. Wei Wuxian forgot to grab it and bring it back with him when he left so abruptly!
"I went to Lotus Pier to go return it to you. That's when I saw the state you were in and brought you here..." Lan Wangji's voice trailed off.
Lan Wangji then placed the clarity bell into the owner's hands. Wei Wuxian gazed at it and smiled, cupping his hands in gratitude. "Thank you! You truly are such a good and kind man!"
Lan Wangji's ears turned red softly at the praise. Wei Wuxian then asked, "So you came to Lotus Pier looking for me?" Wei Wuxian then lowered his head and said with a small, embarrassed smile, "It must have been humiliating and shameful of me to greet you in that state the first time you came."
Lan Wangji immediately shook his head and said with absolute certainty, "It was not your fault. Don't dwell on it."
Wei Wuxian smiled; this time with genuine happiness and gratefulness. Now that Lan Wangji was here by his side, a long recovery process would now need to take place to fix the wounds mentally and physically from the present and long ago.
